MIXED BAG. LET'S PLAY! POKÉMON EMERALD NUZLOCKE ATTEMPT #1! PART 4 & 5!

&

Remember when I said the episodes have been getting better? It seems adding Chris, Clay, and Justin into the mix spiced up the party (plus we were properly warmed up) and we got some generally funny moments. These are the last two episodes from this session but we will record another session of this save soon and I plan to do other series too.

The rules of the Nuzlocke Challenge are still against us... What are those Nuzlocke Challenge rules again?

The basic rules we use in our challenge are as follows:

1. You may only catch the first Pokémon you encounter in any route or area. After that encounter, you may not catch any other Pokémon in that route or area.

2. If a Pokémon dies it is considered dead, must be deposited in the last PC BOX, and never withdrawn. If your entire Pokémon team is knocked out, you're considered dead and must restart the game.

3. You must nickname ever Pokémon you catch.

And that's it folks. Make sure to keep an eye open for the next video/s.

MIXED BAG. LET'S PLAY! POKÉMON EMERALD NUZLOCKE ATTEMPT #1! PART 2 & 3!

&

And here (linked above and embedded further down) are the next two parts to my Emerald Nuzlocke Attempt #1 series! I've actually become a little more confident about doing more Let's Plays after further reviewing these and the next two episodes. It takes a little warming up for our commentary to get animated (something I'll take into mind in the future). These two episodes see us catching several Pokémon to add to our Nuzlocke roster. Unfortunately, due to the rules, it seems our luck is against us...

And, under these rules, we've added Sophie the Poochyena and Swiper the Zigzagoon to our team in Parts 2 & 3.

I hope to have the next two episodes up this weekend, so keep your eyes peeled.

MIXED BAG. LET'S PLAY! POKÉMON EMERALD NUZLOCKE ATTEMPT #1! PART 1!

And here it is folks! The very first episode of the Mixed Bag's Let's Play series.

With the help of my friend AceofSpadesCard (Steven Pullam), I finally started a Let's Play of Pokémon Emerald. But it is not just any somewhat amateurish (mostly due to lack of preparedness and my poor editing skills) Let's Play. It's a Nuzlocke Challenge. Some of you might be asking "What is a Nuzlocke?"

The Nuzlocke Challenge was created in 2010, and you read the creator of the challenge's story HERE and read his webcomic HERE, but here is the gist of it;

The Nuzlocke Challenge is a way for veterans of the Pokémon games to up the ante of the game intended for children to painfully difficult levels. This involves using arbitrary self-imposed rules that make the game easier than a breeze.

And that's it. Right? Well you'll probably quickly find that things are frustrating when every time your Pokémon goes into battle could be a critical hit waiting to happen and you can't grind quick enough to stand a chance. This is our third attempt on a Nuzlocke in Emerald, hence the PC's name being Korbo 3, and the hardships leading to this attempt are still with us.

The struggle is real.

So, join Corey, Steven and I on are Pokémon journey and let me know what you think. I'll be releasing more episodes later this week and the next. I also intend to start another Let's Play as sort of a solo vlog sort of thing to talk about movies, games, and my life as I try my hand at another challenging or relaxing run of my favorite RPG series.

NERDCULTURE SMACKDOWN! POKÉMON OF THE WEEK! JULY 27- AUGUST 2/13!

#347 ANORITH & #348 ARMALDO

This was a challenge to make because, much to my dismay, art containing these plated shrimp Rock/Bug Pokémon were as rare as their fossils are in the games. I chose Anorith and Armaldo during my first play-through of Ruby, due to their nifty design and typing, but was dismayed to find the internet lacking in fanart. What's wrong with you, internet? You getting weak?

NERDCULTURE SMACKDOWN! POKÉMON OF THE WEEK! JUNE 22- JUNE 28/13!

SOURCE
#304 ARON, #305 LAIRON, #306 AGGRON

OH MAN! I'M READY TO ROCK WITH THIS HEAVY METAL TRIO! Aggron is easily in my top twenty favorite Pokémon and I always use him in third generation Pokémon games as my super tank to take out all types of threats! I also really like his 1st and 2nd stage! 2nd and 3rd gen were total surprises to me and I had no clue that Aron, who I thought was pretty cool, would evolve into a Silver Samurai dinosaur!

NERDCULTURE SMACKDOWN! POKÉMON OF THE WEEK! JUNE 15- JUNE 21/13!

 #370 LUVDISC & #594 ALOMOMOLA

Trying to find the strength to write this article two weeks ago is what led to me going on a break from the blog...but here goes nothing. Last time, we covered some rather delightful cottonweed cuties, but this week we've got another pair of boring lovey dovey water Pokémon that I couldn't give less of a crap about... #370 Luvdisc and #594 Alomomola.

NERDCULTURE SMACKDOWN! POKÉMON OF THE WEEK! APR 20-APR 27/13!

#335 ZANGOOSE & #336 SEVIPER

This week we are talking about two Pokémon that get together like Digimon fans and um... being fans of an undeniably successful franchise and piece of impact-making popular culture! BURN! Pokérivalries can be a lot of fun and Zangoose & Seviper represent the immortal archetype in fiction of the rivalry between the mongoose and the snake (usually a cobra, but Arbok already exists so a viper will do).

On a side note, Pokémon heights are something that needs to be fixed like offically because in the anime some Pokémon have fluxuating sizes and, in the official Pokédex the size of some Pokémon is strange-- ex. Charizard should be bigger (a lot of 1st Gen Pokémon seem smaller than they should actually be and I reckon it's to keep to the "whole pocket monster" thing).

NERDCULTURE SMACKDOWN! POKÉMON OF THE WEEK! APR 6-APR 12/13!

#318 CAVANHA & #319 SHARPEDO

Ahoy there folks! Looks like we got another couple of water Pokémon to talk about this week (there are a lot of water Pokémon) but at least they're dark type too. As per usual, I used random number generator and, per usual, I never know what we're gonna experience. All I know that for this article...we're gonna need a bigger boat.

WORD OF THE DAY! 4/3/13!

metamorphosis [met-uh-mawr-fuh-sis]
noun
1. Biology . A profound change in form from one stage to the next in the life history of an organism, as from the caterpillar to the pupa and from the pupa to the adult butterfly.
2. A complete change of form, structure, or substance, as transformation by magic or witchcraft.
3. any complete change in appearance, character, circumstances, etc.
4. A form resulting from any such change.
5. Pathology.
a. A type of alteration or degeneration in which tissues are changed: fatty metamorphosis of the liver.
b. The resultant form.
6. Botany. The structural or functional modification of a plant organ or structure during its development.

EX. Nincada metamorphizes into Ninjask and the shell, left behind, from its previous form awakens as the soul-stealing Bug-Ghost type with Wonderguard (an ability which makes it only vulnerable to Super Effective damage from Flying, Rock, Ghost, Fire, or Dark moves). But, quick tip, if you want to get a Shedninja, you have to have an open slot in your party when Nincada evolves.

WORD OF THE DAY! 3/16/13!

heart palpitation [hart-pal-pi-tehy-shuhn]
noun
1. The unusually or abnormally rapid and/or violent beating of the heart.

EX. I do find it sort of ironic that Spoink would need to having his heart palpitate to live and that, without bouncing about, his little ticker just stops. Pokémon can have really crappy survival risks; we all remember that if Charmander's tail fire goes out...he'll die

WEEKLY ROUND-UP! 3/4-3/10/13!

WEEKLY ROUND-UP PRESENTS

7. WORD OF THE DAY! 3/5/13! Festoon.

We still do not know Ninfia AKA Sylveon's typing and no other Pokémon X & Y spoilers or even solid rumors have emerged in a week. Therefore, we also don't know what its bows are for either.

6. WORD OF THE DAY! 3/7/13! Disintegrate.

Speaking of disintegration, am I the only one that sees all the awesome Cartoon Network shows that are being canceled or retired in their prime?

5. WORD OF THE DAY! 3/10/13! Beeper.

Expanded Side Note: Bob Pataki was a close-minded workaholic bully who's greed, pride, and gluttony constantly threatened the welfare of his friends and family-- and his own health!

4. WTF WED! WTF WED! CHIPMUNKS HUNTING FOR DRAGON POKÉBALLS!

I don't gotta apologize for jack**** when it comes to this previous week's WTF triple feature meal deal that ranged from benign to bizarre-- with Two Men & A Chipmunk, Kentucky Fried Dragon Balls, and a big ol' bowl of Pokébullocks.

3. MUSICAL MON! CAVE STORY W/ LYRICS!

DOWNLOAD THIS GAME & ENGLISH LANG. PACK FOR FREE! Avail. on Nintendo DS & Wii-- also PC & MAC.

2. WORD OF THE DAY! 3/9/13! Double Standard.

I liked Anita Sarkeesian's even-handed approached to the first video in here series but I also agree with criticism from commentators like the Amazing Atheist about why she should enable comments.

#382 KYOGRE, #383 GROUDON, & #384 RAYQUAZA

Not much needs to be said about Pokémon of the Week-- but I want to talk about it anyways. I rather enjoying writing these rather casual articles that combine my relationship with the franchise, with various levels of nostalgia, a smidgin of research, some criticism, and some laughs that ultimately serve to continue to remind me about why I love the series; I love the Pokémon (except for, and yet somehow, including Bidoof).

NERDCULTURE SMACKDOWN! POKÉMON OF THE WEEK! MAR 9-MAR 15/13!

#382 KYOGRE, #383 GROUDON, & #384 RAYQUAZA

This week we've got the legendary Weather Trio from Pokémon's Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald third generation titles from the Gameboy Advance. I have a lot of nostalgia towards the third generation because it was the first title that I anticipated with daily research into Pokémon spoilers! (Yes, really, it was a big deal to my dorky self). I especially have fond memories of Emerald thanks to the inclusion of the Battle Frontier that made the game far more replayable and, considering the strategy improved a lot with the third generation, I was very glad to have more game time. Now, let's get to business...

NERDCULTURE SMACKDOWN! POKÉMONS OF THE WEEK! FEB 23 -MAR 1 /13!

#316 GULPIN & #317 SWALOT

Today, we're looking a pair of poison Pokemon from the third generation that seem to be the spiritual successors to Grimer & Muk-- #316 Gulpin & #317 Swalot. This goes out to all of who have gotten sick because of the up and down weather with these snotty Pokémon.

NERDCULTURE SMACKDOWN! POKEMONS OF THE WEEK! FEB 16-22/13!

#351 Castform

This week we're cutting corners to only provide you with a single Pocket Monster from the third generation, the Weather Pokemon. We've all seen our fair bit of weird weather lately where I live (flipping between warm to frigid day to day and often faster than that) and so I figured we'd look at this fellow.

WORD OF THE DAY! 12/28/12.

gotta [gah-tuh]
conraction of verb
1. Got to, have got to.

EX. What sort of Planet of the Pokemon horror show have I discovered? The only thing that's missing is a shot of Pallet Town in ruins with a big Ash Ketchum statue sticking out of the beach. I gotta get out of here!

WORD OF THE DAY! 12/5/12.

laser [ley-zer]
noun
1. A device that produces a nearly parallel, nearly monochromatic, and coherent beam of light by exciting atoms to a higher energy level and causing them to radiate their energy in phase.

EX. Hyper Beam is best laser there is!
