#318 CAVANHA & #319 SHARPEDO
Ahoy there folks! Looks like we got another couple of water Pokémon to talk about this week (there are a lot of water Pokémon) but at least they're dark type too. As per usual, I used random number generator and, per usual, I never know what we're gonna experience. All I know that for this article...we're gonna need a bigger boat.
First up we've got the piranha inspired Carvanha, a portmanteau of "carve" and, of course, "piranha", with a somewhat mixed design. I like the variety of color, the expression, and the underbite that give this Pokémon a real "om nom nom" vibe, but something feels a little wonky in this guy's composition. Carvanha is a great Pokémon to play with because of his cool typing, decent movepool (ice fang, aqua jet, crunch, etc.) and its abilities, especially its Dreamworld ability, Speed Boost, turn its evolution into a somewhat formidable Pokémon.
I actually really dig Sharpedo's design. The fact that it is pretty much a shark head with four symmetrical, but somehow still comes out as a cool looking monster is a win in my book-- his red eyes that fade into his gills, the pattern in his fins, and, of course, the yellow four sided star on his nose give him a cool aesthetic that screams speed. And, with Speed Boost, Sharpedo can definitely nail an opponent hard.
