NERDCULTURE SMACKDOWN! POKÉMON OF THE WEEK! APR 20-APR 27/13!

#335 ZANGOOSE & #336 SEVIPER

This week we are talking about two Pokémon that get together like Digimon fans and um... being fans of an undeniably successful franchise and piece of impact-making popular culture! BURN! Pokérivalries can be a lot of fun and Zangoose & Seviper represent the immortal archetype in fiction of the rivalry between the mongoose and the snake (usually a cobra, but Arbok already exists so a viper will do).

On a side note, Pokémon heights are something that needs to be fixed like offically because in the anime some Pokémon have fluxuating sizes and, in the official Pokédex the size of some Pokémon is strange-- ex. Charizard should be bigger (a lot of 1st Gen Pokémon seem smaller than they should actually be and I reckon it's to keep to the "whole pocket monster" thing).

WORD OF THE DAY! 4/20/13!

pump iron [puhmp-ahy-ern]
verb
1. To lift weights to exercise or increase muscle for fitness, appearance, or body building.

EX. "LISTEN UP MAGGOTS! LT. SURGE HERE TO PUMP YOU UP? WHAT'S THAT? YOU CAN'T HEAR MY SHOUTING OVER THE SOUND OF YOUR FAT THIGHS RUBBING TOGETHER LIKE A PAIR OF SNORLAXES TRYING TO MAKE A MUNCHLAX!? THEN, MAYBE... I should stop typing in capital letters, Miltank. You wanna know how to go from a Jigglypuff to really buff? It's simple, son. Just do as the Machoke do and lift weights! Pump iron!

How do you think LT. Surge does it? Every day I go into Diglett Cave and I attempt to pull one of those buggers out of his hole. Still haven't succeeded, but it's a heck of a work out!"

EX. As you all know, Disney intends to release Star Wars: Episode VII in 2015 and will continue to release Star Wars films to infinity and beyond. Thankfully, maybe Disney has a sense of humor and might allow Patton Oswalt to produce a humorous direct to DVD film like he plots out in the filibuster on the newest episode of Parks and Recreation. CHECK IT OUT.

WORD OF THE DAY! 4/18/13!

cat lady [kat-lehy-dee]
noun
1. A stereotypically single woman who dotes on her cats. Usually a pejorative, this used to emphasize someone who has an unusual relationship with or an unusual amount of cats (often combined with adjective "crazy").

EX. Meeyowza! I always new Cat Woman was a real Cat Lady. Look at all the cartoon cats? What? No Heathcliff?

WTF WEDNESDAY! OF FRAGGLES, DEATH, PONIES, & WIZARDS!

I have a special place in my heart dedicated to the works of Jim Henson, except... that place isn't for the normally beloved Jim Henson projects that come to the mind of the majority-- I think of Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, Muppet Babies, Dinosaurs and, of course, Fraggle Rock, before I ever think of Sesame Street or The Muppets-- because of the strange place at which I am positioned as a member of Gen Y. Some of the Henson projects I love are clearly inferior to others or had serious problems, and most I caught in reruns that were a time capsule of their era, but Fraggle Rock is a show that is timeless and special.

Fraggle Rock (1983-1987) was a live-action puppet show about the trials and tribulations of the cave-dwelling, fun-loving but still grim, song-singing Fraggles of Fraggle Rock that lived in a world that was constantly trying to capture, squish, or eat them. Unlike most shows of this basic sort of premise, the Fraggles main cast were developing characters that grew and changed over time and dealt with deeper issues ranging from personal crisis to questions about the the meaning of life. The show's production values and writing were fantastic for a children's show and I hope they try to reboot or continue this franchise soon.

私はマイ·リトル·ポニー:友情は魔法ですが大好きしかし私はしばらくショーを見ていない。

So, this, this right here, is pretty much the sort of Live Action TV Show I could get behind-- its got ridiculous melodrama, whimsy, action, fantasy and "nosebones". Regardless, there is nothing you can do to stop me from enjoying this Wizard of the West clip from the makers of Charlie the Unicorn, filmcow.

WORD OF THE DAY! 4/17/13!

oddsmaker [odz-meyk-er]
noun
1. A person who calculates or predicts the outcome of a contest, as in sports or politics, and sets betting odds

EX. Who wants to be the oddsmaker on this? I'd put all my Pokédollars on #2, because it is the most interesting. Pokémon forms are lame, in my humblest of opinions, but I guess some people like that sort of thing:

WEEKLY ROUND-UP! 4/8-4/14/13!

WEEKLY ROUND-UP PRESENTS

7. WORD OF THE DAY! 4/14/13! Masochism.

On a side note, I have a slight soft spot for pink-haired Link, since Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was my first & favorite Legend of Zelda experience and having a pink-haired hero is a lot more more interesting, visually.

Plus, I'd love to see another game with more of a Link the Past feel instead of the point A to point B formula of later incarnations of the series.

6. WORD OF THE DAY! 4/12/13! Om nom nom.

Also, if there is anything to blame for my recently scrawny articles it would be League of Legends, Bioshock Infinite, and Tomb Raider.

5. WORD OF THE DAY! 4/11/13! WHAM!

Note: I don't think Batman would stand a chance against Superman unless he pulls some MacGuffin fighting dirty solution out of his bat belt he has had prepared. Superman's biggest weakness is that he's a good guy.

4. WTF WED! CHIN-CHIN (ちんちん) CATCHES ST. BERNARDS WITH POKÉBALLZ!

Sometimes I like to boil your brains, but I always follow it up with a nice pallet cleanser-- if I can help it.

3. WORD OF THE DAY! 4/10/13! Self-inflicted claustrophobia.

Hey, so, um, I dunno if I've talked much about The Hobbit (cuz I think I did a vlog on it and haven't gotten a chance to post, unfortunately), but I did like it. It had its flaws-- some of the additions worked, but many felt like obnoxious filler to expand the movie into a money grubbing trio.

But, all in all, I really enjoyed it and the film had more than enough stuff out there for all of us dwarf fans out there.

2. POKÉMON OF THE WEEK! APR 13-APR 19/13! #209 SNUBBULL & #210 GRANBULL!

I dunno why, but sometimes finding new fanart makes me really appreciate a Pokémon I hadn't really appreciated before I got on google to make the article. I had mixed feelings about Snubbull, but this article set me straight.

1. MUSICAL MON! LEAGUE OF LEGENDARY METAL GEAR SOLID PLASTIC ROCK BANDS!

My favorite post this week has gotta be about several things I love: LoL, MGS, Rock Band, and my old pup, Ruby.

WORD OF THE DAY! 4/16/13!

boffer [bof-er]
noun
1. A latex or foam padded mock weapon used for simulated handheld combat, especially in simulated battles or LARPing (Live Action Role-Playing).

EX. The only boffer weapon I've ever used was a foam sword (my friend owns a couple) and there is certainly something fun about knocking around a few rounds of simulated combat with your simularly dorky friends. Here are some useful LARP tips (though I've never really had the opportunity or desire to do it myself).

MUSICAL MON! ZAN SAVES LUCAS ARTS, BIOSHOCK RAPS INFINITELY, & EVERY MOVIE TRAILER EVER!

First up, we have Zan who mourns the death of LucasArts (for reason you can't even begin to imagine and probably won't understand). Personally, after much contemplation, I've accepted that LucasArts has been making a lot of disappointing titles in recent years, the employees should be able to find work with their talents, and this opens up opportunities for their properties to get utilized by other game companies-- which is potentially awesome. So, that's my two cents. What do ya'll think?

You may remember Dan Bull from his incredible SKYRIM BARD RAP and will probably appreciate the clever lyrical content of his Bioshock Infinite rap. As someone who finished up Bioshock Infinite, about a week ago, I gotta say that it is probably 2013's Game of the Year (and the year isn't even half-over!). Play it.

And last, but not least, is another cheery animated music video from ADHD. This is a pretty good parody of every movie trailer in recent years and certainly got a good chuckle out of me.

WORD OF THE DAY! 4/15/13!

comatose [kohm-uh-tohs]
adjective
1. Affected with or characterized by a coma.
2. Lacking alertness or energy; torpid.

EX. So, unfortunately, while Ash was in a comatose state, his Grandpa Oak has become senile and his mother is shacking it up with his best friend Gary (hey, he's in his 20's).

WORD OF THE DAY! 4/14/13!

masochism [mas-uh-kiz-uhm]
noun
1. Psychiatry. The condition in which sexual gratification depends on suffering physical pain or humiliation.
2. Gratification gained from pain, deprivation, degradation, etc., inflicted or imposed on oneself, either as a result of one's own actions or the actions of others, especially the tendency to seek this form of gratification.
3. The act of turning one's destructive tendencies inward or upon oneself.
4. The tendency to find pleasure in self-denial, submissiveness, etc.

EX. Who knew that Link was into masochism? I wonder what his safe word is? Probably, "HYAEH!"

He does seem to like abusive relationships...
