WORD OF THE DAY! 5/30/13!

sentimental [sent-uh-ment-uhl]
adjective
1. Expressive of or appealing to sentiment, especially the tender emotions and feelings, as love, pity, or nostalgia.
2. Pertaining to or dependent on sentiment.
3. Weakly emotional; mawkishly susceptible or tender.
4. Characterized by or showing sentiment or refined feeling.

EX. You must raise your Pokémon, not with the sentimental spirit of a chubby Chansey, but with the heart of a Gary Oak. Teach them to be strong or they will simply resent you later when they get their teeth kicked out by the Elite Four (as seen above). Not every Pokémon is popular enough to get a hold item to make them feasible despite their crappy stats like Pikachu.

WTF WED! CRAZY AMY, KRAZY KOJIMA, AND KRAZIER KIM JONG-UN PLAY LEAGUE OF LEGENDS!

First up, we've got a fantastic animation from Jaxamoto that perfectly captures reality TV and the internet's flavor of the week meme, Crazy Amy's Baking Company from Kitchen Nightmares. The episode goes down as the first time that the show's host, Gordon Ramsay (a popular meme mainstay for years), has actually given up on saving a restaurant.

Something I found particularly amusing about the animation in this video is how it reminded me of Adult Swim classic Home Movies. I think it was a fun little nod to the episode where Brendan is looking after a crazy cat couple's pet feline and it escapes, catches rabies, and is put down. The funny thing about that episode is that, much like the tragedy befalling Crazy Amy's restuarant and her partner (who might get deported), by the end you really don't feel sorry for these nutjobs. And this is coming from a really nice guy. Anywho...

Okay. So we're all pretty hyped for Metal Gear Solid 5. Hideo Kojima is a mad genius and MGS4 was one of the best games that I played in the last generation. But, despite how much we love the franchise, Kojima, being a mad genius, has made some strange moves before. This time around...it seems that David Hayter (voice actor and screenwriter extraordinaire) will NOT be reprising his role as Snake in the next game.

This is pretty disappointing situation for most MGS fans. In this week's video from Zan, we'll have to see if he can save Snake's voice with a little help from a couple of Grumps.

And lastly, and probably leastly, is the tiny tyrant Kim Jong-Un's pro-player pick for League of Legends that is an amusing satire of the Pro Player Pick videos that Riot Games has become quite fond of posting.

And really, that's it. Goodbye.

I need a new hat.

WORD OF THE DAY! 5/29/13!

shazam [shuh-zam]
noun
1. The magical word bestowed unto the wizard Shazam's champions, including Captain Marvel and Black Adam, that grants them "the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury". The word is an anagram of the six legends that the champion's powers are said to be composed of.

EX. Did you know that, in 2012, DC made the "brilliant" decision to officially rebrand Captain Marvel as "Shazam" because, for literally decades, people though the character's name was his mentor/catchphrase/title of his comic book?

Personally, I think it's pretty lame. Captain Marvel is a cheesy name, but so is the hero. He is more of a boyscout than Superman. Renaming him "SHAZAM!" to appease the idiots would be like renaming Link to "Zelda" since so many people make that mistake.

Fun Fact: Elvis was a big comic book fan and actually based his costumes (the cape, hair, etc.) on his favorite hero, Captain Marvel Jr.

WEEKLY ROUND-UP! 5/20-5/26/13!

WEEKLY ROUND-UP PRESENTS
GIANT PIKACHU WEEK!

7. WORD OF THE DAY! 5/21/13! Abomination.

In the general consensus of the internet, gamers are not exactly happy about the Xbox One or "Xbone". I would go so far as to say that some internet citizens found it to be a threat to their common indecency and bloated sense of entitlement that first erupted into the public consciousness with the ME3 Ending fiasco.

6. WORD OF THE DAY! 5/25/13! Overreact.

In fact, I would go even further to say that the negative reaction might be completely over the top and slightly embarrassing. But not as emberassing as the Xbone announcement-- BABOOM!

5. WORD OF THE DAY! 5/26/13! Shiny Pokémon.

Have any of you actually caught a Shiny Pokémon?

4. WTF WED! BUMBLE BEES, EVIL NARRATORS, & PUG LORDS? Y NOT!?

Bees! BEES?! BEES?!

3. NERDCULTURE SMACKDOWN! POKÉMON OF THE WEEK! MAY 25- MAY 31/13! #187 HOPPIP, #188 SKIPLOOM, & #189 JUMPLUFF

2. MUSICAL MON! SAVE THE GROANING GRUMPY BADGERS!

I don't always have to explain why I like the things I like.

1. WORD OF THE DAY! 5/24/13! Bogle.

It's been a while since I wrote any poetry and I really enjoyed this random creepy little poem for your Pokéhorror pleasure or whatnot. Have you guys ever written any literature about one of your favorite or, for that matter, any franchise?

Also, "Don't look outside the window at night. Or you'll wind up dead."

WORD OF THE DAY! 5/28/13!

summoner [sum-un-er]
noun
1. Video game. In League of Legends, the player takes on the role of a powerful and gifted spell caster who uses their powers to bring forth a champion to serve as their avatar on the Fields of Justice. With all major political decisions decided by the outcome of these matches in the arena, summoners are the key force of change in the game's world. The player uses a series of runes, masteries, and summoner spells to enhance their champions and, at the end of the match, are rewarded with experience points and IP; the former of which granting them new summoner spells, rune/mastery slots and the opportunity to play ranked matches.

EX. Hey, all you potential summoners, if you're looking for a hobby to eat up your spare time that involves cooperation, tactics, and skill.... then why don't you join me on the Fields of Justice in League of Legends?

MUSICAL MON! BATTLEBLOCK THEATER INADVERTENTLY PRESENTS THE GRUMP OPERA OF ZIDANE & VIVI!

MUSICAL MONDAY PRESENTS

Ladies and gents! I kindly present a Musical Monday article featuring a trio of the strange and the wondeful whimsy that I find in my youtube subscriptions. First up, an unexpected musical piece by the madman behind StamperTV, from the latest Behemoth (Alien Hominid, Castle Crashers) game, Battleblock Theater.

There are several different themes on Stamper's page from the game and I would definitely recommend the game myself if I had two shillings to press together for xbox live points to play the title.

Well, this is "MUSICAL" Monday and there isn't anything more musical than Jontron (except maybe Nathan Lane). This piece if a wondiferous moment between Jon and Arin (oh, Egoraptor) on my very favorite Game Grumps series, Sonic '06. The series has been going on for 104 episodes, so what do you expect but more genius?

And, to leave on a very high note, I'll end with a splindiferous new song from brentalfloss about Zidane and Vivi from Final Fantasy IX. There isn't much to say about this one because it speaks for itself as a beautiful little number from the name with all kinds of lyrics. Seriously, I listen to his Cave Story w/ Lyrics... every time I brush my teeth.

WORD OF THE DAY! 5/27/13!

like a boss [lahyk-uh-baws]
1. An exclamation that describes an action that is indicative of the individual being described has done something or does things in a manner that is cool, awesome, bad ass, or impressive.

EX. I rushed out this Word of the Day...LIKE A BOSS!

WORD OF THE DAY! 5/26/13!

shiny Pokémon [shahy-nee-poh-kee-mahn]
noun
1. Video game. Introduced in Generation II, especially with the in-game event Pokémon, Red Gyrados, these alternated colored Pokémon are extra-ordinarily rare. The odds of seeing, much less catching, one of these ultra-rare alternate colored Pokémon is approximately 8 in 65536.

EX. No, I don't think I've ever seen a shiny Pokémon on one of my cartridges and, besides Gyrados, I've never caught one. The funny part? Some shiny Pokémon aren't that different and, while grinding, you might not even notice.
