BLOOD & PORCELAIN DECK

This article serves two purposes: To share the nerd entertainment around with anyone who might find it interesting and, in this case, to prove how taking the theme of an intro pack, especially a more recent intro pack, can not only make a passable deck, but also a powerful and fun deck.

Today's deck is the satisfying result of combining cards from my collection with a new duel deck. It consists of one component of a duel deck (I split the contents with a friend) and about twenty cards, or so, I've picked up from my local shop, from trading, and from older purchases. As an early draft of a concept, you can expect to see a better achieved form of my themes in the future.

Here is the main component:
Duel Deck: Koth Cost: $10

Note: You can see the original deck list HERE.

I have probably spent about $5 dollars on singles for this deck (some of which don't even appear in the deck). MISCELLANEOUS COST: $5

TOTAL COST: $15

You can find Magic Cards in super stores (Ex. Walmart, Target) but the best place you can buy your cards, meet other players, and play in events is at your local comic book store or hobby shop. I buy most of my cards at The Comic Cellar. Here is a link to its Google Maps location at 3620 Austin Peay Highway #2 Memphis, TN 38128.

Without further ado, with these purchases, I built...

THE KING OF THE HILL DECK:
I SELL PRO-PAIN & PRO-PAIN ACCESSORIES
This deck follows theme including, but not limited to, : mono-red land advantage, lots of burning, and a little bitty Koth of the Hammer. This deck is ultimately a mono-red deck and is the result of sewing my healthy collection of red cards into the funnest deck I've ever played.

Also, I only try to build and present decks that I can afford, this deck is still in a prototype phase, and I hope you will be able to enjoy it. EX. I would love to get a Comet Storm for this deck. All in all, my experiences with this deck have been quite positive and have even won me some games I hadn't dreamed of winning. All in all, it is a casual deck, and I am a casual player. This deck is good ol' casual fun.

alpha and omega [al-fuh-and-oh-mey-guh]
noun
1. The beginning and the end.
2. The basic or essential element or elements.

EX. Arceus is apparently the alpha & omega of the Pokemon universe.

Anyone remember when I posted "The Book of Pokemon" articles, way back when.

Expect more additions to the book in May...

THE BOOK OF POKEGENESIS AND THE BOOK OF PROFESSOR OAK

THE BOOK OF GARY MUTHAF***IN' OAK!

1. The act of uniting again.

WORD OF THE DAY! 4/19/11.

Lovecraftian horror [luhv-kraft-ee-uhn-hor-or]
noun
1. A sub-genre of horror fiction which emphasizes the cosmic horror of the unknown (and in some cases, unknowable) over gore or other elements of shock , though these elements may still be present.

Lovecraftian [luhv-kraft-ee-uhn]
adjective
1.  Anything pertaining or related to the genre of Lovecraftian horror or H.P. Lovecraft.

EX. Lovecraftian horror has a special place in the world of literature, using arguably both more refined and effective methods of horror over gore and fluff, and also has a special place in video games. In particular, Amnesia: The Dark Descent (2011) clawed its way screaming and crying to being one of the sleeper hits of last year and made itself one of the scariest titles of all time. The game involved little action, save running, and focused primarily on creating an atmosphere that would lead anyone into a paranoid frenzy.

You can pick up the title for about $20 or, if you use Steam, you can probably get it for less. Just make sure not to run into the dark or- What was that? My lantern went out? What the- no! NO! GET AWAY! GET AWAY! MRMEREGTMHYMR$HYUME$HYME##$MW@!

WTF WEDNESDAY! TEAM ROCKET IS BACK!

 WTF WEDNESDAY PRESENTS

My old friend Matt "Mapp Pears" Pierce AKA SAKKET AKA pugfarts has made some interesting animation over the years. In particular, some of his most popular videos involve Pokemon characters, in particular Wooper, but today's subject video focuses on combining his most disturbing invention with everyone's favorite inept villains, Team Rocket. You can watch it by clicking the link above, or if you want to see his other pokemon related videos, click one of the many links below.
Maybe its just me, but every time I see one of his videos pop up on my subscription feed I feel my heart do a happy little cart wheel. In a style that emulates the most bizarre lows of Japanese animation with the most delightful highs of shows like Adventure Time with Finn and Jake and  The Misadventures of Flapjack, his cartoons are almost always guaranteed to make someone in the room uncomfortable. But hey, if you find whimsy and gleeful exuberance to be uncomfortable than why are you watching cartoons to begin with?

WINGO!

WORD OF THE DAY! 4/18/12.

sociopath [soh-see-uh-path]
noun
1. A person with an psychopathic personality whose behavior is anti-social, often criminal, and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience.

EX. I always new that Gold boy was unsavory sociopath with his backwards hat and capering through the grass.

WEEKLY ROUND-UP! 4/9-4/15. "VEGETA IS GOOD DAD?" WEEK!

WEEKLY ROUND-UP PRESENTS

"VEGETA IS GOOD DAD?" WEEK

7. WTF WEDNESDAY! LoToR: "ONE DOES NOT SIMPLY START A BOY BAND!"

I am sorry Gandalf...I don't even know how to apologize for this one.Is it amusing? Yes. Are you gonna hate yourself for watch it? Prolly.
My plan to slowly morph this from a blog about obscure comic book miscellanea, pokemon humor, and nostaligic nausea to a blog soley about obscure Japanese commercials starring talking beans begins and ends with "MANLESHIBA!"

5. WORD OF THE DAY! 4/11/12. Product Placement.

Grossest brand Twinklies Snack Cakes are the best thing wrapped in a synthetic yellow goop and wrapped in plastic at your local corner shop. But don't take it from me; take it from everyone's dog-loving super pal, Rorschach.
4. WORD OF THE DAY! 4/12/12. Futurology.

Seriously, I would love to have some AR goggles as soon as they come out with a Scouter version that can read power levels and comes in a stylish shade of magenta.
3. WORD OF THE DAY! 4/15/12. Night-light.

"What if Vegeta was an attentive father? What if when Trunks wanted to go to the zoo, but was sick, Vegeta brought an elephant to their backyard? And what if when Bra was scared of the dark, Vegeta was her night-light? かわいい!"

I couldn't go a whole week without a pokemon reference and what is a better way to celebrate the new Pikachu background than to share this hilarious video?

1. MIXED BAG. TABLE TOP TALES: BLOOD & PORCELAIN

Its funny how doing blogs on my MTG decks has allowed me all kinds of inspirations. For example, while working on this deck article, I changed out about five cards, and then played and won three of the four games I played against my friend, Matt. By analyzing my own choices and how I spend card slots, I was able to realize some changes that needed to be made right off the bat.

If you want to leave some suggestions or comments about my decks feel free. And if you're curious about Magic: The Gathering I certainly recommend it. Now is a great time to get in the world's best trading card game.

WORD OF THE DAY! 4/16/12.

hebetude [heb-i-tood]
noun
1. The state of being dull; lethargy.

hebetudinous [heb-i-tood-nuhs]
adjective
1. Dullness, lethargy, and laziness.

EX. The hebetude of Snorlax is legendary to gamers. He is both a physical barrier preventing you from advancing until you find a pokeflute AND he is a physical juggernaut that, when captured, cane be a useful ally in your goals to become a Pokemon master.

And I dunno why you can't just throw an ultraball at the sleeping pokemon rather than get a pokeflute.

MUSICAL MONDAY! HOLY MUSICAL B@MAN!

STARKID's HOLY MUSICAL B@MAN!

So, Starkid, the production team behind the internet musical, A Very Potter Musical, put out a new musical last Friday dedicated to everyone's favorite Caped-Crusader, Batman. This hilarious musical is a fantastic satire of all things related to the cheesier side of the Dark Knight from satire of Superman's rivalry and Robin's "suckyness".

If you remember A Very Potter Musical, and/or its sequel, than you probably remember how the quality was mixed in those productions. This production is the most technically sound, with top notch sound quality, great numbers, and plenty of tongue-in-cheek spectacle.

A definite must-see for fans of Batman, fans of Starkid, or fans of musicals. You can watch the whole thing by clicking the link below.

Or if you want some Harry Potter, check out A Very Potter Musical and/or its Sequel. They have a number of other productions that are definitely worth seeking out, as well.

WORD OF THE DAY! 4/16/12.

sucker punch [suhk-er-puhnch]
noun
1. A sudden or surprise punch, strike, or atttack.
2. A surprise maneuver.
verb
3. To strike someone, without warning, with an unexpected blow.

Ex. Few sucker punches are more brutal than the instinctual reaction of a nerd, in this case female, defending her favorite hobby from being spoiled by the empty commentary of an ignorant know-nothing.

Check out more of Super Mutant Magic Academy, a school of magic and mutant powers, for a hilarious dose of nerd humor, magical mishaps, and mutant angst.

WURMWOOD DECK V. 3

This article serves two purposes: To share the nerd entertainment around with anyone who might find it interesting and, in this case, to prove how taking the theme of an intro pack, especially a more recent intro pack, can not only make a passable deck, but also a powerful and fun deck.

Today's deck is one bloody result  of my attempts to build an artifact creature deck. It consists of an intro pack and about twenty cards, or so, I've picked up from my local shop, from trading, and from older purchases. As an early draft of a concept, you can expect to see a better achieved form of my themes in the future. Here is the main component:
Intro Pack: New Phyrexia, Life for Death, Cost: $13

Note: You can see the original deck list HERE.

I have probably spent about $10 dollars on singles for this deck (some of which don't even appear in the deck) and I've probably spent about $24 bucks on boosters since the block arrived so we'll tack on an additional cost. MISCELLANEOUS COST: $24

TOTAL COST: $37

You can find Magic Cards in super stores (Ex. Walmart, Target) but the best place you can buy your cards, meet other players, and play in events is at your local comic book store or hobby shop. I buy most of my cards at The Comic Cellar. Here is a link to its Google Maps location at 3620 Austin Peay Highway #2 Memphis, TN 38128.

Without further ado, with these purchases, I built...

THE PHREXIAN MANA DECK:
BLOOD & PORCELAIN
This deck follows theme including, but not limited to, : artifact creatures, artifacts, and phyrexian mana. This deck is ultimately a Red/White artifact creature deck and I've taken the challenge of doing what I can with the cards limited to the mechanic and, more importantly, the cards limited to me.

For those of you who don't know, Phyrexian Mana allows certain cards to be played or effects to be activated by either playing one colored mana or two life. For example, picture above, Porcelain Legionnaire can be played for 1 White and 2 other mana OR 2 other mana and 2 life.

Also, I only try to build and present decks that I can afford, this deck is still in a prototype phase, and I hope you will be able to enjoy it. EX. I would love to get a Platinum Emperion for this deck. This version of my RW Artifact deck has gone through a lot of changes. It has been an Equipment Deck and a Myr Deck. One of those may show up in the future, so make sure to join this site.

WORD OF THE DAY! 4/15/12.

night-light [nahyt-lahyt]
noun
1. A usually dim light kept burning at night, usually in a child's bedroom.

EX. Vegeta didn't really seem like the attentive or fatherly type, as far as I can remember. When he met future Trunks, he treated him like future junk. He seemed more interested in surpassing Goku than literally anything else. At his heart, he still seemed to have a seed of ambition that drove him toward evil goals. And yet, what if we only got half the story.

What if Vegeta was an attentive father? What if when Trunks wanted to go to the zoo, but was sick, Vegeta brought an elephant to their backyard? And what if when Bulla was scared of the dark, Vegeta was her night-light? かわいい!

P.S. Bulla = Bra in Japanese, haha, get it, Bulma = (ブルマー)Bloomers, Trunks = (トランクス)Trunks, Bulla= (ブラ)Bra. Ha ha, Akira Toriyama, you so funny.
