NERD CULTURE SMACKDOWN! I LOVE LEGEND OF ZELDA! PT. 2

11 Specific Reasons I Love The Legend of Zelda 6-1

6. BEING THE HERO OF TIME
At number six, we're getting a wee bit personal and a wee bit interesting. The reason that the series is called "Legend of Zelda" rather than "Legend of Link" is that, besides in the TV series and CD-I games, Link is just the default name of the hero of time. In fact, as far back as I can remember, at least as far back as Link to the Past, which is the only game with a pink-haired Link, you can pick a name for your hero. I usually name my characters Sean, Imple, or Imple Jr.

Anywho, the cool thing about being the hero of time is that you get to go on this big adventure, explore this big world, wield the Master Sword and other awesome gear (will get back to the gear in a second). Wielding the Master Sword is especially cool, whether it be from the ability to shoot lasers in the early titles, or in the latest title being used with wii motion plus to give you the closest thing to a sword fight you could experience in a video game.

OSBTSF TUES ED. 2011 SUMMER OF 101 MOVIES 58-101!

Hello friends and film addicts,

I declared the Summer of 2011 to be my "Summer of 101 Movies!". It wass my goal to watch 101 movies I have never seen or finished by the end of the summer. I decided to put myself through this rigorous challenge after an argument I had with my friend, Zach Stanifer, over the fact that I want to write movie scripts but have missed out on alot of classics and blockbusters over the years. It was in that moment that I decided to challenge myself to expand my pallet and discover what the big screen could do for me through DVDS, Bluray and instant Netflix!

Here goes my fourth and final blurb bomb!

P.S. I've just start 2012 "Summer of 51 Films" and will do my first blurb round-up on Sunday.

NERD CULTURE SMACKDOWN! I LOVE LEGEND OF ZELDA! PT. 1

11 Specific Reasons I Love The Legend of Zelda 11-7

 11. SOUND EFFECTS

Yup, while some of the sound effects like Navi yelling "Hey! Listen!" at you or the dreaded sound of your hearts blinking in the top left corner of your screen might be annoying, it doesn't mean the sound effects are bad. If anything it lends to my argument that Zelda has some of the most effect use of sound effects in video games.

After all, in a game without voice overs (the CD-I games had voice overs and we know how "wonderful" of an idea that was), then Nintendo has got to use their amazing power of sound design to try and create something that is as pleasing to the ears as it is to the eyes. A short list of my favorite Zelda sound effects:

WORD OF THE DAY! 7/5/12.

animism [an-uh-miz-uhm]
noun
1. The belief that natural objects, natural phenomena, and the universe itself possess souls.
2. The belief that natural objects have souls that may exist apart from their material bodies.
3. The doctrine that the soul is the principle of life and health.
4. Belief in spiritual beings or agencies.
EX. I am sorry. I am really sorry. But I just don't like the subject for today's word of the day. There have been some annoying companions in the Zelda franchise, but not sidekick has pushed harder to be disliked while simultaneously doing nothing to make me care either way. The idea of the Master Sword having a persona? Potentially brilliant...the outcome is how the animism of Fi, rather than inspire me to enjoy the sword work better in the classic idea of singing sword, she drove me to dislike her...more than Navi.
Today's subject is...

WTF WEDNESDAY! GROOSEWARD GOURD!

WTF WEDNESDAY PRESENTS

Click the link above, puhlease.

While last week's WTF animation, also done by Ukinjoe, might be a little more surreal and disturbing than some of the other material I would normally display here, his animation dedicated to everyone's favorite red pompadour having bully is delightful fun. A little weird, but hilarious, this really succeeds in the awesome animations of Groose, Link's Loftwing, and Zelda.

Also, poor Groose.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES: WORD OF THE DAY. 5/9/12. Reincarnation.

EX. WARNING! Minor, very minor, like talking about the character without getting too deeply in detail spoilers ahead. Today we're talking about why the Zelda from Skyward Sword may in fact...be the best Zelda.

WEEKLY ROUND-UP! 6/25-7/1/12.

WEEKLY ROUND-UP PRESENTS
FOR THE LOVE OF FAN-ART WEEK!

7. WORD OF THE DAY! 7/1/12. In absentia.

Magic: The Gathering has really become an important hobby in my stable of things to do and spend money on. I can't wait to go to the pre-release this weekend because I am psyched about M13.
6. WORD OF THE DAY! 6/26/12. Ukiyo-e

Is there anything else finer than a brilliant piece of Nintendo fanart? Well, besides the love of a homocidal teenage girl robot android sent from the future to save your life and give you rides to school on her back, courtesy of her jetboots, very few things are as fan as the Nintendo fanart I've shared with you guys from Jed Henry.
5. MUSICAL MONDAY! PIKACHU ON ACID!

I wonder what the Japanese word is for "tripping balls". Maybe its "tarepingu basu desu?" Or is that Engrish?
4. WTF WED PRESENTS: BLONIC 1 & 2

Ukinjoe's animated shorts are hilarious and manage to throw in some clever bits of satire that only someone who lives on the internet would get. You sonic fans have a problem. Just saying.
3. WORD OF THE DAY! 6/27/12. Whimsy.

This Adventure Time x Miyazaki fanart crossover from DMD just makes me want to break down, pull my DVDs off the shelf, and have a private little marathon with someone special. Whimsy starts in the heart.
2. SCI-FI FANTASY SUNDAY PRESENTS SILVERFISH PROLOGUE PT.1

And you guys probably forgot I could still write, huh? Please check out this story and be excited for the lead-in to my pathfinder campaign fan fiction. A special thanks to my companions of the Action Society.
1. MIXED BAG. PODCAST #2 Game of Bronies: Unchained Generations

If last week was "lazy week" I really brought it for the end of the month and the start of the knew. Enjoy this podcast starring myself and Zach Martin.

MIXED BAG. SMALL TALK #2 The Great Gatsby (2012)

MIXED BAG. SMALL TALK # 2

And in this week of the Mixed Bag Small Talk #2 we're talking about the trailer for Baz Luhrman's The Great Gatsby (2012) based on the quintessential American novel and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Macguire, and a colorful cast set against the technicolor era of prohibition.

This was our first podcast with a guest; as per usual it was hosted by myself and Zach Martin and we were joined by Chase Devine. It was a pleasure and I hope we can get other guests, including Chase, in the near future.

WORD OF THE DAY! 7/3/12.

timeline [tahym-lahyn]
noun
1. A linear representation of important events in the order in which they occurred.

2. A schedule; timetable.
EX. Click the image above for a break down of the Zelda timeline in diagram form before I get into a heavy discussion on the matter and sum it up for you in linear a model as possible. A lot of confusion is possible because a lot of names are reused a lot in the series.

MUSICAL MONDAY! MIKE & IKE MUSIC VIDEO!

MUSICAL MONDAY PRESENTS

A SINCERE REACTION TO MIKE AND IKE'S SEPARATION

First things first, click the title above, watch my friends video, like, favorite, and subscribe.

I like Mike & Ikes. They're delicious. I enjoy every flavor, but cherry is maybe my favorite and strawberry my least favorite. But I don't that's the point of this article; the point of this article is to get you guys to check out Matt Pierce AKA Mapp Pears AKA SAKKET AKA pugfarts latest video that shows of one of his talents I've enjoyed over the years, his musical talent.

His animated reaction to Mike & Ike's separation, which received silly backlash from people who think that the candy's promotional program were about gay marriage, is a bittersweet affair, but worth it for all the flavors. The visuals are candy for the eyes and the vocals are as soothing as sucking on your favorite fruit-flavored jelly bean like candy.

Watch it and make sure to show your support as an entry in a contest. You can click the link below to go to the contest page.

SCI-FI FANTASY SUNDAY! SILVERFISH PROLOGUE PT. 1

SCI-FI FANTASY SUNDAY

About three weeks ago, my good friend Kyle finally unleashed his DM skills upon our gaming group and the results have, thus far, been extremely satisfying. Its our first Pathfinder game and, for those of you out of the know, Pathfinder is basically Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 + several corrections to rules, balancing of classes, and simplification of material. Basically, think of it as D & D 3.75. And, in our campaign, I am playing a D & D character that indulges several character fantasies of mine and I would like to share a little prologue about his exploits before we get into the cool storyline of our game sessions and the characters within.

Before I get into it, I want to assure I will be continuing The Action Society, Bastards & Buggers,  YÅŒKAI soon. If you have a preference over which one you would rather see continued first, please leave a comment or send me a message about it.

You can see the last chapter in both below.

And here are some links other relevant articles.

WORD OF THE DAY! 7/1/12.

in absentia [in-ab-sehnt-shah]
adjective
1. In the absence of (something).

EX. I hate to use some somewhat obscure humor today, sorry non-MTG fans, but the magic fans will appreciate this and the web comic:

You should definitely check it out if you're a magic fan for some magic game/backstory humor. But yeah, why was Sorin in absentia in the final act of the Innistrad story? He returns to his home turf Innistrad to, supposedly, discover what happened to the plane's goddess and his creation Avacyn, Angel of Hope. And he just sort of shows up, there is a new planewalker card for him, and then that's it?

This is a pretty ridiculous situation and really I wouldn't be surprised if they either forgot about him or plan on having something in the future tie back to Innistrad (it was a very popular bloc), but I just don't know...

He was the first planeswalker I ever pulled out of a booster.
