WEEKLY ROUND-UP! 4/29-5/5/13!

WEEKLY ROUND-UP PRESENTS
THREE WOLF MOON-MOON WEEK!

7. WORD OF THE DAY! 5/1/13! Doublethink.

Will I ever grow tired of watching Pikaclone slapping Pikachu's chubby cheeks? The answer is no. No. Never.

6. POKÉMON OF THE WEEK! #48 VENONAT & #49 VENOMOTH!

I post a lot of Pokémon stuff, but I'm thinking that I might need to lighten up a bit on it and turn to some other fandoms (except there is SO much Pokécrap!).

5. WORD OF THE DAY! 4/30/13! Mustache.

I wish I could post more Superhero stuff but a) I haven't had the money to buy any new comics lately and b) there is honestly more relateable Pokémon content. Weird, huh?

4. MUSIC MON! REMEMBER MC CHRIS'S BEAUTIFUL GRUMP SONNET?

I took a week off and came back stronger than ever with a really strong Musical Monday article, two Tabletop tales articles, some decent Word of the Days, and a super-strong WTF Wed! And yet... I considered taking this week off, as well. I need some sort of additional motivation to keep this blog a-go-go.

3. TABLETOP TALES: DRAGON'S MAZE PRE-RELEASE! PT. 2 "AMERICAN DRAGONS"

This week I hope to follow up both of Dragon's Maze articles with two articles that try to show ways I could've used my card pool to build a stronger and more competitive deck in the format, while looking forward to the next event and the future of Standard.

2. TABLETOP TALES: DRAGON'S MAZE PRE-RELEASE! PT. 1 "NAYA WAR CHANT!"

But, while I didn't find much success, I've learned some tips and lessons from this setback about how to play my events. Like playing outside of my comfort zone, looking for the combos I wouldn't think of before I had the cards before me, and following a structure like about 15 creatures, 17 lands, and 8 non-creature spells (unless I have good control for a different combination).

1. WTF WED! JAPAN #5 SWIMMING ANIME CONFIRMED, MANNEQUINS & ANGLER FISH! (+lil witches)

This article was atomic hot with awesome and funny anime goodness from the shores of Japan (and a side of weirdness too). If you haven't checked out this article yet, do yourself a favor and do so.

WTF WED! JAPAN #5 SWIMMING ANIME CONFIRMED, MANNEQUINS & ANGLER FISH! (+lil witches)

WTF WEDNESDAY PRESENTS

So,  a few weeks ago, I decided to share a viral video that otaku, casual anime fans, and other deviants found terribly enticing or just terribly amusing (I found myself in the latter), simply titled "ANIME DO SEXY SWIMMING" OR "THE SWIMMING ANIME"(CLICK HERE FOR THE ARTICLE). A healthy or perhaps unhealthy chunk of the anime fan community threw its weight behind the swimming anime, which was just an animation promo, getting green-lit for an entire series. I suppose the possibility of a cute sports anime with tons of fan service for girls who like guys, guys who like guys, and guys & girls who find some sort of exotic entertainment in seeing something so outside of the norm. Furthermore, the idea of having some new cute/amusing/often bizarre anime internet subculture with it's own fanart, fanfiction, fanpairings, etc. was too obvious for the internet to pass up.

And that's why, much to some people's suprise, the anime got picked up and will air under the title "FREE!" The internet is an amazing place and, in honor of the Japanese flavor out there, I'm gonna share some more Japanese weirdness today for the first "WTF WED! JAPAN" since the first few months of the blog. Enjoy.

The Fuccons is a comedy series about a family of Americans living in metropolitan Japan. The show actually aired on G4 TV, under the name "The Fuccons", but is better known as "Oh! Mikey" in Japan. The show revolves around situational comedy mishaps, but is known to end on non-jokes and dark moments, as well as silly jokes, that give a show about living mannequins an extra layer of creepy, but comical humor. Every episode ends with their sculpted smiles erupting into laughing.

For your viewing pleasure, I found a playlist of episodes, but a simple google search can probably find more. Enjoy.

Okay, so here is your bit of 100% pure I don't even know what is exactly going on in this video, so I'm going to have to do some research....*googles*

Girls und Panzer is about an alternate universe where girls learn the martial art of operating and using tanks. Huh? Okay. That's pretty interesting. I can see this being big draw for the cross-section of fans of anime and military paraphernalia.

As for the Anglerfish Dance, this appears to be a reoccurring phenomena from the show that has reached meme status. Google "Anglerfish Dance" and you will find several clips/videos dedicated to the bizarrely uncomfortable dance and its seemingly haunting/cute/creepy overtones. I can't quite tell if it is a punishment or a ritual of the show's main team called the "Anglerfish Team". More research is needed. Feel free to help me and the other readers out by explaining it in the comments below.

And lo and behold, a bonus in our content? That's right. The internet is already frothing at the mouth to help greenlight another cute anime from a featurette to a series and there is nothing WTF about  this project! It is a charming, well-animated, well-designed, and well-written anime about a trio of friends at a witching school that comes complete with bullies, dungeon-crawling, and some graphic cartoon violence. SHARE and enjoy.

See ya'll next week! Please share, comment, and subscribe!

WEEKLY ROUND-UP! 3/11-3/17/13!

WEEKLY ROUND-UP PRESENTS

7. POKÉMON OF THE WEEK! #434 STUNKY & #435 SKUNTANK

I know I gave these butt-faced skunks a lot of guff, but this cartoony rendering of Skuntank is growing on me... He just looks like such a grumpy little munchkin.

6. WORD OF THE DAY! 3/14/13! Grunt.

On that note, I suppose there are worse Pokémon to be paired with as a Team Rocket grunt than Stunky but I'd prefer something with a little more bite. What Poison or Dark Pokémon would you want to have as your evil starter?

5. WORD OF THE DAY! 3/17/13! Monorail.

Flashback: The second Word of the Day article I did for DSF was Simpsons-themed and included "cromulent" and "embiggen"! Check it out HERE!

4. MUSICAL MON! BOOMHAUER'S SONOVOX VS. TALI: QUARIAN DISNEY PRINCESS!

"Harumph. How can you read this? Where are the gun specs?"

3. WORD OF THE DAY! 3/13/13! Comeback.

I got some good mileage out of the Pokémon anime lately (but I don't really watch it which sorta feels like cheating).

2. WTF WED! MY LITTLE SPANISH SWIMMING PONY ANIME DS!

I was pretty proud of everything I talked about in this article that truly embodied a variety of WTF-- from plain old pony WTF to offensive WTF to cultural WTF. Good stuff.

1. MIXED BAG. CAVE STORY REVIEW!

Cave Story has probably lodged itself in the echelon of games that, rather than be a footnote in my game catalog, will stand the test of time and be something I go back to every two or three years. Like Super Mario Galaxy 1/2, Twilight Princess, Halo, etc. Also, if you haven't figured it out yet... CAVE STORY IS FREE! CLICK HERE! Download the game and the English Language Pack and start playing it ASAP.

WTF WED! MY LITTLE SPANISH SWIMMING PONY ANIME DS!

WTF WEDNESDAY PRESENTS

So, I know you crazy cats liked MY PONY.MOV SERIES ARTICLE and so, when I found out that there was another piece of media related to the series-- I HAD TO SHARE (cuz unlike Jappleack, I can share). The tumblr page starts out a simple, though often NSFW/abusive Ren & Stimpy style look into this delightful fan character, it quickly evolves and snowballs until it becomes a webcomic that actually spills the beans on "Applejack"'s adventures to save the multiverse she was on during the events of the other .MOV videos. BROHOOF!

This is the single most racist premise filled with racist innuendo that I have ever seen disguised as a children's video game-- in fact, it goes beyond offensive and goes straight into legendary troll territory! Clearly, the makers of this game were either dissatisfied with their work or just massive bastardos. I recommend searching and watching/reading the other segments you can find on youtube, including the conclusion where Shawn becomes a drug mule.

You should click HERE to watch the video. This one is for the ladies, guys who like guys, otaku, casual anime fans, and internet citizens like myself with a bizarre sense of humor-- starting out as a simple promotional anime project from Kyoto Animation that was simply a short video, in the style of many similar videos/ music videos we generally get of original female characters all the time, and that's where things go nuts.

It seems that a simple short about four attractive/cute/sexy/attach additional adjectives that might apply etc. teenage boys swimming, drying off, and horsing around with each other around a pool has sent the internet (4chan & Tumblr) into a tizzy with fans foaming at the mouth as if bit by some new rabid fascination. Within a few hours, fan art, fan fiction, fan pairings, and so much more filled up the fan forums and girls/boys of the Internet rejoiced over the existence of new internet deities that were blanks vessels to attach personalities/relationships/backstories.

In fact, there is a petition to make this an anime. Personally, I just find the creation of cute anime characters and mascots to be fascinating and wish we had that sort of fun in America-- everything from porta-potties to precincts have their own mascots and cute nifty animations like this one are made all the time. All we get is crappy commercials about talking babies...

P.S. It's fine if you don't like this and/or don't get why I/others find it amusing. That's okay. That's sort of the entire point of WTF Wed. If you enjoyed this article, I highly recommend you search my blog for past WTF articles.
