WORD OF THE DAY! 3/19/15!

trunks [truhngks]
noun
1. Brief shorts or briefs, loose or tight, worn by men chiefly for athletic activities like boxing, swimming, and track.

EX. I refuse to ever learn anything about Trunks's sword. Because his sword is only ever used in one encounter, effectively, and breaks when he fights Anroid 18. I don't remember seeing him ever use it ever again. Because, while it was an interesting idea, it never amounted to anything because, when you can break planets with your fists, swords are kind of obsolete (and hard to design fights around...cough cough).

He basically carries a sword because Trunks is Akira Toriyama's OC character, in the series he created and wrote, and he thought it looked cool. So cool that he forget to ever give Trunks a Saiyan tail. He says it is recessive trait. I just think he honestly forgot or didn't care.

Don't believe me? Dragon Ball GT.

WTF WED! AN INTERVIEW WITH GOD: ANIME, TOYS, & HORROR ABRIDGED!

Krillin was my favorite Dragon Ball Z character as a kid. I mean, I wanted to be Gohan up until the point that he became Saiyaman, but I always had a fondness for Goku's best friend, side kick, and comedy relief, Krillin.

In a show with battles between super villainous monsters and usually the uber innocent and pure Goku, Krillin, while arguably the most powerful human alive, was also human. Krillin was a brave Z-Warrior but he was capable of fear (often having to hide from stronger opponents), love (falling in love with Android 18), and anger (he wanted to finish off an injured Vegeta after he and Nappa directly led to the death of not only most of his friends but hundreds, if not thousands, of people but Goku stopped him).

Krillin may often be the butt of jokes in the nostalgic memeverse but he will always be a great character in my book.

Speaking of nostalgia, it was revealed that Disney/Pixar are making a Toy Story for a 2017 cinema release and, to my pride, most people are confused, upset, and even angry with the audacity of continuing the franchise with a direct sequel.

Each Toy Story film upped the ante from the simply tale of identity and friendship of the first film, dealing with love and loss in the tolerable second film, and the issues of abandonment and death in the heartbreaking third film. After the third film, in which the toys bond over their acceptance of their fate and the inevitability of their purpose/lives eventually ending, what is left to explore in the incredibly dark world of sentient toys?

Seriously Pixar, I thought you guys made art first and franchises second. Then again, Cars. Cars 2. Planes. Planes: Fire and Rescue. Inevitably, Cars 3: Carpoacalypse.

Sigh.

The Onion is on fire lately. This interview confirms everything that I imagined about the allusive figure behind everything from the holocaust to Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

I need to find some food.

MUSIC MONDAY! I'M JUST SAIYAN THAT THIS TITLE IS DRAGON ON! LOL!

Let's start this chilly Monday with a look at, possibly but not definitely, the last and possible best Frozen parody of the bunch:

Team Four Star is the big success story of the Youtube Abridged community; a super group of talented voice actors and producers of their own series, they have been producing episode of Dragon Ball Z Abridged for 5 years and are still going strong.

They also do one-offs like this week's featured video and their classic parody of "I'll Make a Man Out of You" from Disney's Mulan.

Seriously, if you like anime (or even if you don't), abridgers produce some of the funniest content on youtube and you should check them out if you somehow haven't by this point.

THE DRAGON'S DAUGHTER! (GAME OF THRONES TRIBUTE MIX)

Last week I mentioned I'm stoked for the new season of Game of Thrones, so lemme talk about a funny little antecdote:

I dunno why, but every time I cut the grass I think of Game of Thrones. My family lives in the country and we have a good chunk of land that I gotta cut every one to three weeks over the spring and summer to keep it from getting out of hand. My mind seems to almost always wander to Game of Thrones and Game of Thrones based fantasies (like made-up characters and future events, etc.). Maybe it has something to do with the series being associated with that time of year or maybe I just want to write cool fiction like George R R Martin. I got no idea...

Finally, let's end on a League of Legends music video compilation.

WTF WED! FINAL FANTASY XXX: ATTACK ON TIT-AN DESU!

First off, nope. Nope, I have not yet watched any of the Attack on Titan anime. Yet, I still thoroughly enjoyed this new Abridged episode from the geniuses over at Team Four Star. This hilarious parody of an overtly disturbing anime that took the internet by storm this last season will have you in stitches before you can say "potato".

Well, that's probably a slight exaggeration.

I'll just refer you to this recent article: http://dumbledoreshotfirst.blogspot.com/2013/11/word-of-day-11613.html

Then, I'll point out that this nifty little animation manages to cover several bases in it's satire of about a dozen different Anime cliches and tropes.

Lastly, we've got the latest comedic envisioning of the uber popular Final Fantasy VII-- a game I have yet to play and, unless I see something to convince why I should, I don't intend to any time in the future. I apologize if this offends anyone, but I don't think you need to play the game to enjoy parodies of it.

P.S. I have played Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core on the PSP. It was good.

WORD OF THE DAY! 2/8/13!

forsooth [fawr-sooth]
expression
1. In truth, in fact, indeed, etc.

EX. "So, if I hit you before you hit me with your hammer then I am worthy to learn the Kaio-Ken from King Kai and you'll take me out for Shawarma?"Goku asked, a clear gleam of enthusiasm splashed across his gormless face as he stretched his legs and watched the blond god.

"Forsooth, Son Goku," Thor nodded, cranking his wrist to spin his hammer to build up speed, "Forgive me if I strike you down, mortal. The Kai King has promised that in your state I could do you no more harm than being dead. Now,"He gestured and Goku began to run at full spring, Thor counting to three, and tossing his mighty Mjolnir, "Have at thee!"

He slung his hammer and, rather than hear the familiar collision of Uru on bone, he saw an orange shape coping back over the horizon and catch his hammer.

As the inscription on the hammer says, "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall posses the power of Thor."

And you can be that Goku would be worthy.

P.S. Chiaotsu is not a Pokemon.

WTD WED! TFS! HELLSING ULTIMATE ABRIDGED EP. 1!

WTF WEDNESDAY PRESENTS

Well, I had to give this series a second chance when the third episode of Hellsing Ultimate came out a couple days ago and I have to say it turned my frown upside down. A good abridged series isn't something that comes along every day and this one is pretty sweet. It takes the second anime adaptation of the awesome Hellsing manga, Hellsing Ultimate, and makes it a hilariously over the top, violent, graphic, and silly mess. Enjoy.

DAILY ROUND-UP. 9/8/11

Here are some things that kept me going today.

First up we got one cool cryptid discovered and then we got a big discovery!

iO9's CRYPTID CONTESTANT FINDS WHITE CHEETAH!

io9.com is a great website for finding out the newest news in the world of science, sci-fi, fantasy, and general nerdery. Over the summer of 2011 they held a contest to find pictures, fake or hopefully real, of undiscovered or cryptozoological (a word that's great for word of the day tomorrow) animal.

They apparently received an entrant of a picture of a white cheetah. It is possible that this could be the "King Cheetah" of African myth or it is just an albino. Either way it's pretty cool to find something this rare.

A much bigger story, out of South Africa, is the discovery of a mostly complete fossilized skull of Australopithecus sediba. It may be the most accurately dated hominid in the fossil record and will shed light on our genetic ancestry. Sweet.

Nappa is in a flashback. What more do you need? Besides King Vegeta, Piccolo merging with Nails and Krillin getting his ass kicked for the 15th time?

This episode is hilarious and I really can't recommend this series enough to casual and hardcore fans of the classic anime series.

PHELOUS REVIEWS CROCODILE!
One of the lesser known internet reviewers, I really love Phelous's videos. He has a very "meh bleh" style but somehow gets my kind of humor. I love this review and Princess is really the best character in this terrible monster movie.

ORSCON SCOTT CARD's HAMLET!? WTF!!?!

It is unfortunate when a once respected author gets a little too preachy and bat-poo crazy. Orson Scott Card brought us Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead, two classic sci-fi novels with deep character depth and universal messages. His other books and stories? Not so much.

In his version of Hamlet, the main character, Hamlet, is unabashed by all the murder and mayhem about him. Furthermore, Hamlet's dad is gay and a pedophile who molested and turned Horatio (his murderer), as well as about six other characters gay. Cuz Orson Scott Cards thinks all children who are molested become gay then become pedophiles and create a vicious cycle.

Seriously, the man and his politics needsto be put out to pasture.

A NIFTY STAR TREK TIMELINE!

Star Trek is hitting its 45th anniversary and, as a somewhat new fan of the show (Star Trek: Next Generations is awesome) I was really impressed by this sweet timeline.

And finally a PSA...
