MUSIC MON! YOUR SPARK IGNITED? MARIO TIME!

When Duane and Brando reunited and combined their forces, I gotta say that it was a bit of awesome news in the world of video game parody/fan music. Their rhymes always deliver a combination of slick lyrics and silly humor-- in other words, there is a lot of potty humor but it is delivered with a scamp-like quality and aplomb that sets it a cut above the rest.

And, adding in brentalfloss? That's a frickin' cherry on top!

In a beautiful and haunting bit of magic (pun intended), Falconshield has broken new ground with a video sponsored by Wizards of the Coast to promote the new Magic Origins game (free to play on iOS devices and coming to Steam, XboxOne and PS4 soon). It seems to try and capture the emotional moment of Chandra Nalaar's spark igniting-- from the anguish of her loss to the thrilling feeling of freedom that comes becoming a planeswalker.

It is a beautiful video and really has me pumped to play the game when it comes out on Steam!

Oh, yeah, and brentalfloss dropped a new single this week about the hazards that befall the infant racers in Mario Kart. #babydeath

That's not a Jesus. That's a jedi!

"TOTALLY NOT MONDAY" MUSICAL TUESDAY

"The master has returned."

I heard the rumor again, a whisper between two acolytes walking ahead of me, as they dodged patches of ice on the bridge. Their conversation was buried by the sound of the barreling of the train coming into the station beneath us--buried like their foot prints by the falling snow and buried like my memories in the past.

"The master has returned!"

The train came to a halt and priests, hailing from the far east, could be heard playing their bells, whistles, and chimes as they stepped out onto the platform. I wondered if they had just started their performance upon arrival or whether they had been playing it all trip or whether they had been playing it for days. If their master had returned, celebration was to be expect.

The light dusting of peace and joy and good will towards all men would soon be blasted away by the blizzard of war.

If "the master has returned", skills like mine would be in high demand in the city. That is what Munna told me. I do not know who I am but, Munna says, I am a soldier.

My name is Breeze. At least that is what Munna calls me. I don't remember my real name.

I woke up on a night like this. I had been left to die in the snow amongst the fallen of a small skirmish from the master's last war. Munna found me there.

Munna is a merchant. Some people call her a thief but, really, she is merely an opportunist. She had been about to pry the sword from my gut as I was waking up and, as I tried to pull myself up, sliding up the blade that pinned me to the ground she stopped me. She helped me. She took me to her cart and patched me up.

I've done odd jobs for her ever since. I could've gone to the rebels or the army, but I wasn't sure which side I had been on. I was wearing a soldier's uniform but it wasn't like the army to leave a body behind. They had won that battle. They haven't lost a battle in a long time. That is why it surprises the rebels and acolytes alike of their master's return.

It would be dangerous to go to the army or the rebels. If I go to the wrong one and they recognize me as an enemy, either side would take me prisoner, torture me for information, and, inevitably, make an example of me by taking my life. That is what Munna told me. And she is probably right. I've seen the holovids of the military executions and it was hard to forget finding the bodies of loyalists hanging from lamp posts in the lower city.

"The master has returned!" A young bald headed priestess shook her tambourine at me as I climbed onto the train, one hand instinctively reaching up to the hilt of my blade before I caught myself and nodded at her, before turning back to take a seat on the train.

If the master has returned, I have to go up to the middle city. I have to find Eska and Varda. It might already be too late.

It is snowing in the city. It always snows in the city. The weather is always changing but the weather is always the same.

Dunkey be damned.

"TOTALY NOT MONDAY" MUSIC TUESDAY! GET DUNKED, GET OCARINA, GET REVOLUTION!

Falconshield puts out excellent content on a weekly basis that supplies with me plenty of music to listen to when I play League and I have been playing a lot of league lately. In fact, as I sit here typing on my new Razor Black Widow keyboard (loudly), I am excited to get back on the rift tonight and continue improving my ADC game so I can climb out of Bronze this season. Hopefully, I won't get dunked in the process.

P.S. Vi is still one of my favorite champs.

brentalfloss thinks Ocarina of Time is a flawed and overrated title that changed one of his favorite video game series for the worse. This is a fairly unpopular but growing more popular by the day opinion. Dave Bulmer is in the majority, though, and thinks Ocarina of Time is one of the best games, if not best, of all time.

I don't have a strong opinion on Ocarina but, I'll admit, it is the only Zelda game that I have never finished and I only got a few hours into it...

This is different. I like different.

MUSIC MON! DREDD TAKES DOWN SCROOGE MCDUCK IN DK COUNTRY!

I liked the 2012 film adaptation of Dredd. I also think there are a lot of people in the same boat. After all, unlike the Robocop remake or the Total Recall remake, it not only surpasses the original but warrants a new franchise!

Unfortunately, the film's gross was not as impressive as it needed to warrant a sequel in the eyes of Hollywood. But do not lose hope!

Karl Urban hasn't.

As for Donkey Kong, why does everyone hate on "Dankey Kang"?

Yes, to your inner eight year-old, Diddy Kong is a more relateable character; he is young, speedy, agile and wears a baseball cap. Meanwhile, to your inner eight year old, Donkey Kong is older, slower, goofier, and wears a tie. A tie you could hang yourself with!?

But, in defense of Donkey Kong, um...

I think he is okay. Good even. I like him. Okay?

They really need to do a remake of DuckTales in the style of something like the amazing Adventures of Tin Tin movie or the upcoming Genndy Tartakovsky's POPEYE feature film. It had a great cast of fun characters, over-the-top adventures and slapstick, and a kicking soundtrack that has held nostalgia in the hearts of the cartoon's fans for over 25 years and the comic's fans for almost 60 years!

Now, I must away to play more Hyrule Warriors!

MUSIC MONDAY! BRENTALFLOSS'S DUCKTALES W/ LYRICS EXTRAVAGANZA REMASTERED!

MUSIC MONDAY PRESENTS
BRENTALFLOSS & DUCKTALES: A RETRO-RETROSPECTIVE

I know some of you have already sprung the cash to pick up a copy of Ducktales in HD on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii-U, & PC. I haven't had the chance to yet, as I'm currently about as out of cash as Scrooge McDuck is rich old lunatic, but I've heard some good things. Seeing as these sort of arcade releases are a real brightener to our Augusts going back to the Xbox Live Summer of Arcade back in 2008 with the release of Braid and Castle Crashers.

First up, the original classic Ducktales W/ Lyrics.

Then, we got this juanty little tune about the Amazon level from the NES classic.

Finally, we end on a celebrate of the newly released Ducktales Remastered in glorious HD. I don't have a ton more to say about these. If you enjoy these videos, make sure to comment, like, and subscribe the rest of his work.

MUSICA MONDAY! BIOSHOCK W/ LYIRCS & MORE

MUSICAL MONDAY PRESENTS
BIOSHOCK: TOBOSCUS & BRENTALFLOSS

For today's Musical Monday we have two tunes based off of what could become one of the most innovative and engaging series in gaming history, Bioshock, specifically Bioshock and its upcoming sequel that takes us from the depths of the ocean to the height of American pie in the sky antics of Bioshock Infinite some time early next year. The cool thing about the music dedicated to these very cool games is that the two entertainers in question have a very different approach to the material:

Tobuscus's approach is part of his "literal trailer" series which, combined with his personality, has netted him enough attention be involved in a couple of official trailers for television. He simply watches a trailer, sings about it, and tells a story; sometimes accurate and sometimes completely ridiculous. This one is an especially good trailer to do because of the serious tone, the subtle but interesting music, and the cool story within a trailer feel it already has going for it. Its probably my favorite of his literal trailers, besides perhaps the one for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood which got me to buy the game.

While I really like Tobuscus's Literal trailers, if there was any justice in the internet, brentalfloss's work would be as appreciated and as popular as Tobuscus's. Taking an arguably more creative and easily more time-consuming approach to his songs, brentalfoss usually takes classic music from video games, like Zelda W/ Lyrics, remasters and/or remixes them, and puts lyrics to them usually with some interesting video accompaniment . With the Bioshock Song he took a riskier approach than usual, going for a completely original work that pays homage to one of the best games of all time, and created something that is uniquely brentalfloss (and his name is spelled in lowercase cuz...).

In the end, I implore to check out both songs, subscribe, like, favorite their channels, comment here about your thoughts on the two songs, and share them with friends. If you can throw me some support too, that'd be swell. Also, check out the link below to a vintage Bioshock article I wrote when the blog was new.

MUSICAL MONDAYS! TOP 11 BRENTALFLOSS.

TOP 11 BRENTALFLOSS VIDEO

Welcome to my first Musical Monday blog. On Mondays I will be posting a cornucopia of blogs of different size and ambition. I might post a blog about the history of Wizard Rock or just a video with a break down of why I like it. Hell, some day I might do a sing along, who the fruit knows.

One type of blog I'll be doing is Top 6/Top 11 blogs. Today we focus on brentalfloss.

brentalfloss's (and yes, his name is supposed to be written in lowercase) videos focus on taking the soundtracks of classic video games and remixing them with his own lyrics, as part of the 'With Lyrics'. He is one of my favorite youtubers and his videos have been featured on Attack of the Show (G4 TV).

Real name Brent Black, brentalfloss has a youtube channel and also posts videos on screwattack.com. You can order CDs from his website's store, http://www.brentalfloss.com/store.cfm.cfm, or download them off of iTunes.

So here goes my Top 11 BRENTALFLOSS Videos.

11. Kirby W/ Lyrics

Who doesn't appreciate the little pink puffball getting a deserved kaiju treatment? Kirby is certainly more terrifying than the Cloverfield monster. He is basically a black hole with big cute googly eyes and runs around saying, "HIYYYYAAAEEE" before sucking you into his infinite vortex of gluttony!

10. Chrono Trigger: The Musical

I wish I could put this higher on the list because this is one of his least popular videos. As he states, he originally kept the first version of this video in his secret stash and even when animated it still has less views. Why? Chrono Trigger is pretty much a dead niche series (though an undeniable classic) and not everyone can appreciate what he is going for. This really is a sweet little song and a great parody of Colm Wilkinson's warbling (South Park also parodied him in a Thanksgivings Day special).

9. Castlevania II With Lyrics

I really hope companies like Konami appreciate fan stuff like this video. If it wasn't for people remixing the Castlevania soundtracks I would've written them off as another hack'n'slash without discovering the fun there is to be had.

8. Mega Man 3 "Game Over" With Lyrics

A sequel to the video that arguably rocketed him through the interwebs? brentalfloss completely captures the humiliation and the taunting of a game over song in a cheery, mean-spirited but playful fashion.
7. The Truth About Toad

brentalfloss really makes a great argument in the debate of "what the hell is Toad and is it gay?" The answer is a yes. Toad is Peach's gay butler who is useful for little but telling Mario that Peach is in another castle, being used as a human shield and throwing red turtle shells out of a go-kart. I wonder if we'll ever see an analysis of the enigma that is Lady Birdo.

6. Tetris With Lyrics

This is a wall in my room.
TETRIS WITH LYRICS! Click Here!

It has always been my opinion that Tetris's entire hook is the song. Don't get me wrong. I really enjoy playing Tetris. My room is painted up with tetriminos. I don't think Tetris a girl exclusive, though floss seems to think so, feel free to leave your opinions below.

5. Zelda II With Lyrics

Zelda II is a strange duck. Everyone remembers the original NES title and Link to the Past (to the Past is my favorite SNES game). Yet, everyone forgets this 2-D sidescroller with rp elements and a chick who wants to heal you with her....huh? Thanks to virtuaconsole and ROMs a lot of fans who missed this title are getting a second chance to enjoy it's weirdness.

4. Final Fantasy Victory Theme With Lyrics

Final Fantasy is a series with great music. The victory song is one of those that carries on game after game and sticks with you. Everyone has hummed or made up words to this song (kind of like the Mario Star Invincibility tune). brentalfloss really nails this short but sweet tune.

3. Dr. Mario With Lyrics

Much like Wario's case of Mushroom Rot, this video got around thanks to floss's awesome portrayal as Mario, the hilarious animation and the lyrics. Dr. Mario is a terrible physician. Every play Smash Bros? He uses pills as weapons!

2. Mega Man 3 With Lyrics EXTENDED RE-MIX

If Mega Man 3 With Lyrics turned us all onto to the awesome sauce that is brentalfloss, than the remix showed us that the only one who can improve his first big video is the man himself. I love this song's sing-along styled lyrics. It is bad ass in every way.

1. Zelda With Lyrics

This video introduced the awesome floss character that is "Old Man". Old Man is a oft-forgotten but oft-quoted hermit, "It's dangerous to go alone. Take This!" In the original Zelda, he gave Link a sword and sent him on his quest to save the princess. The effects, performance and lyrics of Zelda With Lyrics are perfect. It helps that this series arguably has the best music of any video game series (at least according to X-Play and myself) and brentalfloss's rock remix bring the awesome. The beard helps too.

And that's it for Musical Monday's Top 11 BRENTALFLOSS Videos.
