WORD OF THE DAY! 4/26/16!

barrel roll [behr-uhl-rol]
noun
1. An aerial maneuver in which the airplane makes a complete rotation while maintain forward momentum at all times.

I featured these cool independently produced fan animations based on the Star Fox characters last year and, finally, after years of hard work of "Fredryk Phox" and his comrades, we have an episode length pilot. And it is fantastic.

They took the characters and setting of the Star Fox franchise, animated them into a more adult style reminiscent of the jazzy Fritz the Cat meeting Bojack Horseman's dry wit and rolled up together in a way that is so good you'd swear you were watching the pilot for a new Adult Swim show.  The music and voice acting just add to the aesthetic of this brilliant piece of hand animation that was clearly a passion project. I really hope there is more coming and just hope Nintendo or someone else doesn't kill it. This is why the internet exists.

THIS.

And it comes out right on the heels of a new Star Fox game (which may or may not be one of the worst disappointments of the year) and a Star Fox anime short (which is so-so). The latter of which you can enjoy in the link below!

MUSIC MON! STAR FOX SMASHES THE OLIGARCHY!

If you're a fan of animation or Star Fox, you should definitely check out the work of Fredryk Phox, who has been working on an animated Star Fox project for a long time but is finally bringing all of his effort together to present a fully animated series. You can support him on Patreon.

Let's take a moment to appreciate another sweet video dedicated to Iwata with this parody of Kermit the Frog's Rainbow Connection.

Nice.

I was torn between two "politically themed" videos this week but I think this video, in the vein of Schoolhouse Rock, won out over the other video because of the edutainment value! Like many Fox ADHD videos, it is a dark commentary on the state of the world and, I mean, if you don't find it problematic that the rich are getting richer, the poor are getting poorer, and our democracy increasingly is controlled by a kabal of incumbents, then I envy your optimism (and this is coming from a fairly optimistic person).

If there isn't an oligarchy, it is still educational and funny! Check it out!

FTW FRIDAY! KUNG FURIOUS SAMURAI COP ATTACKS A TITANIC STAR FOX!

Kung Fury is a short film being produced with help from a successful kickstarter by Laser Unicorn (a great name for a production company) and will be released later this year, online, for free!

Any film that is about a time traveling loose cannon cop from Miami going back to ancient Asgard and 1940's Nazi Germany to defeat the evil "Kung Fuhrer" with a series of amazing 80's-tastic special and practical ass kicking effects has gotta be worth the wait! Just look at the trailer! There is a viking with a machine gun!

Samurai Cop is an amazingly so-bad-it's-good film! (Seriously, go watch it now!)

Don't believe me? Watch his "Sons of B****es" speech.

The film was unearthed a few years ago and quickly made itself a must-see for weird movie fans everywhere! I learned about it thru Red Letter Media and Obscurus Lupa. And, about a year ago, Matt Hannon, the star, made the internet aware that, in fact, he was alive and well.

That could only lead to one thing! A sequel. And it has Tommy Wiseau and many of the actors from the original film. Only time will tell if it can somehow manage to hit a sweet spot of fan service and glorious over-the-top nonsense. I know I gotta see it.

I still haven't watched Attack on Titan (working through Sword Art Online at the moment) but this looks really cool.

Technically, this counts as a trailer to as it is as way to get people to subscribe to the creator's patreon account by showing some early work:

Fredryk Phox has been working on little Star Fox projects for a long time and they've all been building up to an animated series. The production quality from the character designs to the voice work to the sound design to the animation have me won over. I can't wait to see this weird sci-fi action-comedy with tinges of darkness and jazz has me won over. The only concern I have is that Nintendo will kill this incredible fan project before it can get finished.

On a related note, I really wish Nintendo would create some new animated series or films.

WTF WEDNESDAY PRESENTS FEDORAS, FILM NOIR, & STARFOX 64!

I can almost always finding a running theme in WTF Wed articles and none are thinner than consonance & alliteration. Nevertheless, I'm still quite pleased with the harvest of hilarious & hair-brained amusements I've already per-perused for your viewing pleasure. First up, posted above, is a perfect parody of the unfortunately neck-bearded nerd who, while otherwise probably a fine fellow, makes the modern faux pas of wearing the rarely pulled-off properly fedora. As per usual with Redminus, this animated video is more than it seems...

The Out of This World series of Game Grumps stands as a testament to Danny & Arin's chemistry and, with the catchphrase too easy not to exploit, they decided to make a one-week only shirt themed around the in-joke from the series. The commercial for the joke doesn't take the route of their previous, though still often funny and demon-possessed, efforts and instead took a film noir approach that has everything; Egoraptor in a dress, Barry as a mustachioed cop, and Danny bothering one of Arin & Suzy's cats.

Lastly, I hope ya'll enjoy this fantastically animated little bit from the Starfox 64 playthru between Jon and Arin. Their chemistry shines in a scene where Arin's love-hate relationship with the fans shine like a dying supernova.

MUSICAL MON! SPACE ODDITY COVER BY THE INTERNET'S FAVORITE ASTRONAUT!

MUSICAL MONDAY PRESENTS

Okay, so we've covered a remix of Space Oddity with brentalfloss's starfox cover and David Bowie as the Goblin King, but today is something special. Today, we're covering the first music video filmed in space.

Chris Hadfield is the internet's favorite astronaut; he's on the Canadian $5 note, has made several awesome videos answering people's questions about space (EX. "Do tears fall in space?" and "What happens if you wring out a wet towell?") and has generally been a champion of education, fun, and the human race.

And, about an hour ago, Chris Hafield began his return down to earth on a shuttle. I wish him the best and hope that someday we'll all have the opportunity for safe space travel.
