meta [meh-tah/mehy-ta]
noun
1. One level of description up. A metasyntactic variable is a variable in notation used to describe syntax, and meta-language is language used to describe language. This is difficult to explain briefly, but much hacker humor turns on deliberate confusion between meta-levels.
EX. I'll just let the meta-humor of this post speak for itself. Having posted the picture of Lincoln riding a laser bear, this goes one layer of bizarreness too far, and I am too tired to go further into it...for the moment.
