Jilly Murphy's The Worst Witch book series is a predecessor to Harry Potter, even more so than Kimba: The White Lion is a predecessor to Disney The Lion King. It has been made into several spin-off series, a TV series, and, as of this year, the TERRIBLE 1986 MADE FOR TV FILM adaptation has achieved cult classic status just based on the merits of the the video linked above.
