NERDCULTURE SMACKDOWN! POKEMONS OF THE WEEK! FEB. 2-8/13!

POKEMONS OF THE WEEK! FEB. 2-8/13!

This week we're looking at the tentacles with the tenta-most, #72 Tentacool & #73 Tentacruel! We're gonna be looking at the designs of the first generation Pokemonsters and maybe talk a little bit about Episode 19 of the anime, simply title Tentacool & Tentacruel!

#72 TENTACOOL & #73 TENTACRUEL

This week we're talking about two of the tentacled terrors of the 1st Generation, that terrorized an entire coastal city with kaiju-proportioned destruction in Episode 19: Tentacool & Tentacruel. Before I talk about that episode, lets talk about their designs.

Tentacool has a pretty terrible design-- unless your intention was to design one of the least attractive and least interesting Pokemon ever. Tentacruel is a little bit more dynamic and intensely intimidating with its alien like dome, intelligent eyes, and bulky tentacles that threaten to grab everything within reach to choke the very life out of it. Perhaps, this is what inspired the kaiju-themed episode of the anime.

I've linked it about four times throughout the article and I recommend checking out the madness for yourself. But anywhos, some highlights of the episode include: a giant Tentacruel leading an army of Tentacool on a city destroying vendetta against the city that threatens their lives, an evil old lady who hates Pokemon more than just about anyone up until this point, the first appearance of Misty's Horsea that she saves from an oil slick, Meowth being taken hostage by the Tentacruel to translate the collective's will to the puny humans, and Ash Ketchum acting like quite the hero to try and save the day in a classic kid appeases kaiju ending.

Also, Misty is a little insane when it comes to water Pokemon.
