Generation [jen-uh-rehy-shun]

1. Pokemon video game series. A group of the main series of Pokemon games released at or around the same time. These games Pokedex's include all Pokemon that have been released up to and during their own releases. These games are also more compatible with each other than previous or more recent titles.
2. Pokemon video game series. The different species of Pokemon that were created and released alongside a few titles released at or around the same time.
EX. As of 1/1/2013, there are 5 Generations of Pokemon species and Pokemon games. There are 649 Pokemon split up amongst these generations and, almost inevitably, the first Pokemon of Generation VI will be hinted at or revealed this year in the Pokemon anime or newest Pokemon anime movie, as has been custom since Pokemon revealed the first Generation 2 species with Togepi in the animated series and Marill, Snubbull, and Donphan were revealed in Pokemon: The First Movie.
