WORD OF THE DAY! 1/24/14!

wicker man [wik-er-man]
noun
1. According to Julius Caesar's Commentarii de Bello Gallico, a large wicker statue in the shape of a human used by the ancient Celtic druids for human sacrifice by burning it and the victim in effigy. There is no archeological evidence that this ever took place but is, instead, most likely the result of misinformation out of Greco-Roman disdain for cultures they saw as barbaric. However, many agents of neopaganism have taken the ritual of burning a wooden effigy as part of many of their festivals, though, obviously, without the element of human sacrifice.

EX. Nostalgia Critic has finally gotten around to reviewing the Wicker Man remake starring Nicholas Cage. There will be bees.

WTF WED! THE NOSTALGIA CRITC & THE ANGRY VIDEO GAME NERD in THE MYSTERY OF THE YANNICORN!

WTF WEDNEDSAY PRESENTS

D-DESUKA!? This was a real weird one to find out about, but its sort of completely awesome to know that there are fans for our favorite internet reviewers over in Japan! I've talked about the Angry Video Game Nerd before (check out this classic article of AVGN VS. Arino the Kacho), but I don't think I've really pimped out Nostaglia Critic. The Critic is a character at the center of an entire network of video reviewers. The character Doug Walker plays is a personification of the cynical critic in all of us critical folk when it comes to entertainment-- going off into rants and moments of temporary insanity in reaction to horrors like...well...TWO ANIMATED TITANIC MOVIES?! (One HERE. And one HERE). His specialty is reviewing 80's and 90's tripe, but has known to do some retrospectives, top ten lists, and has started breaking into the 2000's for some fresh nostalgia & exceptions. Doug Walker actually retired the character last summer but, to quote him, "the review must go on!" He started reviewing again-- he may have changed some things but, if the Pearl Harbor review is any indication, the King is back baby.

This a new classic animation from secretagentbob, featuring, in their debut roles, the Yannicorn, Kenny G.sus, &, last but certainly not least, Munch the Hungry Star Cat Fish! The Star Cat Fish really steals the show with

"Little Kitty Baby eating marshmallow pie, oh man!
Sometimes I feel like my life is a marshmallow lie!
Little Kitty Baby eating the world with my face,
OMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOM!"

Bonus nerd points if you can name off the titles to these classic Hanna Barbera cartoons in the comments below.

WTF WEDNESDAY! THE ROOM DUMP!

The room is the most impressive film of the last fifty years, drawing on the genius of Orson Welles Citizen Kane and a Sunday School performance of Hamlet performed by a man-creature, a hybrid of Quasimodo and Grimer Wormtongue, and his dopey friends. The man-creature is known as Tommy Wiseau and not only did he star in The Room but did I mention the full credits?

TOMMY WISEAU's THE ROOM directed by Tommy Wiseau, written by Tommy Wiseau, produced by Tommy Wiseau and, as aforementioned, starring Tommy Wiseau. This enigmatic lusus naturae came onto the scene of film history with his opus about a man named Johnny; Johnny has everything-  a successful career, an apartment in San Francisco, his best friend Mark, his fiance Lisa, a creepy ward Denny, and a birthday approaching- that is until Mark and Lisa betray him!
DUN DUN DUN!

The film really is a mystery. I enjoy it immensely for its schmaltzy, abysmal crapulence. Fans of the film come on two sides: The first group, including myself, believe this was intended to be taken seriously and just winded up as one of the best worst films ever made OR the second group, which claims this is a genius film that trolls its audience and is intentionally bad. The second group is wrong. I think. Maybe. Damn, just find a copy of this movie or watch some of these videos.

Oh, and my theory? He made this film so he could get dressed in a tuxedo and throw a football.

I give the film a 5*/5.
