Rosalina was introduced into the Super Mario Bros series with the Super Mario Galaxy installments (which I'd argue are a couple of the best platformers ever) and she quickly became a fan favorite. Rosalina is a powerful princess in the Nintendo verse: she is the adopted mother of the Luma, commander of the Comet Observatory, and watches over the cosmos. She is, essentially, Nintendo's guardian of the galaxy.
Recently, she has received more and more spotlight as an unlockable fifth character in Super Mario 3D World, a playable racer in Mario Kart 8, and as a new challenger in the upcoming Super Smash Bros for 3DS & Wii U.
