EX. I know I'm late to the party when it comes to sharing this info--
after all, the kickstarter for Mighty No. 9 ends in a day-- but I want everyone who hasn't got a chance to check out this incredible project to press the eyeballs to the screen and take in all of the
mighty majesty that is this Mega Man spiritual successor.
Mega Man is one of the most beloved 2D platformer/metroidvaniaesque games of all time, making it's mark on the console market first during the NES days and building a strong legacy through the SNES years with several impressive sequels and spin-offs. Some time after the Mega Man X series, the franchise started going downhill and, after an attempted nostaglic revival of the franchise's iconic gameplay and style with Mega Man 9 and 10, Capcom has seemed to let the franchise fall by the wayside and into the no-man's land of being an existing franchise that it's owners don't seem very interested in when they could instead put out more lazy Streetfighter IV sequels and Resident Evil games. The man who was with Mega Man since the very beginning is one of his creators, Kenji Inafune, legendary game designer (pictured above). After 23 years, Inafune left Capcom in 2010 to pursue new opportunities. So, what does he do?
How about head a spiritual successor to Mega Man with kickstarter that has people almost more excited than if he and Capcom had announced an actual sequel to the series?
Mighty No. 9 is an ambitious project but is clearly has the pedigree in it's production team to make an amazing game that combines the best of both worlds, between nostalgia and modern visuals, with an HD platformer with gorgeous graphics,
mighty fine music, and gameplay that's as good, if not better, than ever! Plus, the hero's name is Beck. I can dig it.
They're only a few hundred thousand short of releasing the title on next gen consoles and handhelds so, if you wanna play it on those mediums, donate a little cash now! If you wanna find out more about the process, check out the first part in the documentary series on the franchise
