WORD OF THE DAY! 12/8/12.

fan theory [fan-theer-ee]
noun
1. A proposed explanation about a particular franchise, or any or all works and elements of fiction, whose validity is either completely implausible or unverified by the creature.

EX.

QUOTED FROM A FORUM POST BECAUSE IT WAS TOO MISSHAPEN FOR THE BLOG:
"Anonymous 07/27/09 (Mon) 02:17 No. 10536711

Aladdin: In one scene, Genie calls Al's clothes "so 3rd century." Genie has been the lamp for 10,000 years, so there's no way he could know of the fashion trends which hppened since he's been trapped. Which means the latest Genie could have been trapped in the lamp is the 3rd century. If he spent 10,000 years in there, it is now AT LEAST the year 10,300 AD when he gets out.

Conclusion: Aladdin takes place IN THE FUTURE. A post-apocalyptic world where only Arab culture (and some Greek) survived. It has been so long that the name "Arabia" has been corrupted to "Agrabah." The Muslim religion has atrophied to the point where there are no mosques, Imams, or prayers mats, but people still give praise to Allah in moments of happiness. Amazing technological marvels left behind by the previous civilization, like sentinel flying carpets or genetically engineered parrots which comprehend human speech instead of just mimic it, are taken for granted by the locals or considered "magic."

The Genie proves this by making impressions of ancient, long-dead celebrities like Groucho Marx, Jack Nicholson, etc."

WORD OF THE DAY! 12/7/12.

meta [meh-tah/mehy-ta]
noun
1. One level of description up. A metasyntactic variable is a variable in notation used to describe syntax, and meta-language is language used to describe language. This is difficult to explain briefly, but much hacker humor turns on deliberate confusion between meta-levels.

EX. I'll just let the meta-humor of this post speak for itself. Having posted the picture of Lincoln riding a laser bear, this goes one layer of bizarreness too far, and I am too tired to go further into it...for the moment.

WORD OF THE DAY! 12/6/12.

penguin [pin-gwin]
noun
1. A large flightless seabird of the southern hemisphere, with black upper parts and white underparts and wings developed into flippers for swimming under water.

EX. Maybe Super Mario 64 is what taught me my hatred of penguins...

Also, been replaying Super Mario 64, and I would still argue it is a classic. Maybe, I'll review it soon... Definitely expect a review of Aladdin (SNES) this weekend.

WEEKLY ROUND-UP! 11/25-12/1/12.

WEEKLY ROUND-UP PRESENTS
"WINTER IS COMING" WEEK!

Not if Batman can help it!

6. WORD OF THE DAY! 11/29/12. Attached.

I've been in oddly embittered attitude lately, probably due to career misfortunes I've had in the last few weeks, but I'm trying to optimistic.

5. WORD OF THE DAY! 11/28/12. Master ball.

Its not about catching 'em all, that's the trick. Its about the journey to try and catch 'em all.

4. MUSICAL MON! VENTURE BROS. "FROM THE LADLE TO THE GRAVE!"

It really is sorta bizarre that it took me over a year to post anything about Venture Bros. Hm....

3. WTF WED! SUPER MARO LORD OF THE POKERABIES TRIPLE FEATURE!

Speaking of bloody faces, I just gone with the dentist and my face is all numb. Then, oof, I got another appointment next week and gotta get my wisdom teeth out the week after I graduate. Expect an outage...

2. WORD OF THE DAY! 11/25/12. Mutt.

Gotta a little sentimental with dogs this week; I think its a mix of my own dog getting old and having to see neglected dogs every day on the way to school...sads...

1. WORD OF THE DAY! 12/1/12. Dungeon Master.

"I still don't see why he couldn't rip his head off..."Ludd mumbled, to himself, bitterly.

WORD OF THE DAY! 12/4/12.

pyscho [sahy-koh]
noun
1. A psychopathic person; someone who displays irrational, dangerous, or insane behavior.

EX. Psyduck was always an odd duck. Look at that psycho's stare and tell me he has a soul or even a pokesoul!

MUSICAL MONDAY! CHARLIE CHAPLIN & LEVAR BURTON DOUBLE FEATURE!

MUSICAL MONDAY PRESENTS

To give "Remember December" a good star, I want to start by linking the two latest pieces from melodysheep -- one that should make you want to stand up and one that makes you want to snuggle up with a good book. The first remix is of the famous speech made by Charlie Chaplin in his role in The Great Dictator (1940).  A clip of the speech, called the "Greatest Speech Ever Made" and "The People of Earth" has received massive attention over the last few years due to the political strife in the world, especially in North Africa & The Middle East, and is an optimistic and humanistic argument for humanity to unite and to oppose oppression everywhere.

"Do not despair
The hate of men will pass
 And dictators die
And the power they took from the people
 Will return to the people

 Let us all unite!"

Make sure to watch the original here if you haven't by clicking right HERE.

And I'm following up with another PBS sponsored video by melodysheep about the classic children's show, Reading Rainbow, which starred LeVar Burton. As a proponent of reading and educational programing, I really appreciate the spirit of a show like this and how that future generations will still be able to enjoy reading a non-digital book (although progress will probably override that sentimental thought).

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT DUMBLEDORE SHOT FIRST?

WORD OF THE DAY! 12/3/12.

take five [teyk-fahyv]
idiom
1. To take a, usually brief, break or respite.

EX. Sometimes, even androids gotta take five.

MIXED BAG. JUSTIN'S B-DAY CARDS!

I found this awesome trading card game generator, a few months ago, that allows you to make your own cards, like the magic card above, for fun. I made 9 special cards for my friend's birthday party and, if you've been checking out Planeswalkers of Midgard, you'd see the set I've been working on since the summer.

If you're interested in making your own cards, check out the link below.

MAGIC SET EDITOR

You can check out the rest of the cards after the jump. If you're curious, the cards are based on various parts of my experiences with Justin through Dungeons and Dragons, Magic the Gathering, and other gaming over the years and years I've known him. A special theme I applied with many of the cards was to show the growth of his various characters in campaigns I ran or shared a part in playing.

I ran with a rules-lawyer theme for some of his cards because Justin has the reputation, through his thorough knowledge of table top rules and his dedication to fairplay, of busting out the rule book on the DM, usually myself, any time that he can.

WORD OF THE DAY! 12/2/12.

procrastination [pro-krah-stuh-nay-shun]
noun
1. The act or habit of putting or delaying a task, especially something requiring immediate attention or with a quickly arriving deadline.

EX. Procrastination? Well, blogging is something I've gotta do every day more or less....so what if I gotta read about 340 more pages on Henry VIII before tomorrow, study for an exam tomorrow and two on Tuesday, and have a 10 page paper to work on....I gotta take breaks....right?
