WORD OF THE DAY! 11/3/12.

death by chocolate [deth-bahy-chaw-kul-it]
noun
1. A marketing term for various desserts that feature chocolate (especially dark chocolate or cocoa) as the primary ingredient. Supposedly, the term and its various incarnations began as a result to satisfy a fictional dessert of the same name. These sorts of desserts may be layered chocolate cakes, a molten chocolate cake, a flour-less chocolate cake, or more messy dish made up of brownies, mouse, chocolate bars, whipped topping, chocolate syrup and/or so many other chocolate sweets.

EX. I'm sure you all know that dogs can truly meet its end via death by chocolate, so perhaps it would be instructive to explain why chocolate is amazing to humans, but poison to dogs. Dogs process the chemical in chocolate, theobromine, much slower that humans-- we process it in 20 to 40 minutes and  a dog processes it over a dozen hours. Small doses can cause nausea and diarrhea, while larger doses can cause permanent brain/heart damage through heart attacks and seizures. The darker the chocolate, such as baker's chocolate, the worse it is for the dog.

Here is a short list of some other foods dangerous, unhealthy or toxic to dogs: Avocado, alcohol, onions & garlic, coffee, tea, and anything with caffeine, grapes & raisins (they cause brain damage), milk & other dairy products, macadamia nuts, candy & gum, fat trimming & bones, persimmons, peaches, plums, raw eggs, raw fish, raw meat, salt, sugary foods & drinks, yeast dough, and much more.

My advice? If you wanna know whether its safe to feed a dog something... do some research.

WTF WED! DISNEY BUYS LUCAS FILMS FOR $4 BILLION!

WTF WEDNESDAY PRESENTS

Yesterday, George Lucas (as seen in the link above) announced the deal he made to sell Lucas Films to the Walt Disney Co. for a cool $4 Billion. Since Lucas owned the company 100%, he gets all the money and has claimed he will give most of it to charity. Perhaps more vital to know is that Lucas announced that Star Wars Episode VII will be hitting theaters in 2015. My reaction to this news was a mix of shock, horror, and excitement...

Lucas is smart to put his work in the hands of Disney, as long-time collaborators and as a company that has a great history with franchising and protecting brands; the perfect example, as of late, of Disney's involvement making a successful product was in the culmination of Marvel Film's crowning achievement, The Avengers. The film was the highest grossing live action film in Disney's production history and is generally agreed to a great film. It seems like Disney's plans are to basically go, "Hey! You make good stuff? Here is all this money and resources! Make more of that stuff and we'll all be rich and happy!" Plus, this means more Disney World Star Wars attractions which just makes me giddy with expectations. Well, there is on thing I am very weary about...

Star Wars Episode VII. The very idea is full of amazing possibilities and also teaming with the fear I have of a repeat of the prequel films; Lucas thinks Star Wars is for little kids, Disney likes to appeal to little kids, and so this could end up producing a really tame film. The other problem is that, going forward, has all sorts of complications. A direct sequel would seem impossible considering the actors can't really reprise their roles (which would depressing) and they can't be replaced (which would be lame); so the only options is to go forward into the expanded universe. But even that has its dangers... So, as we look forward, I think the Star Wars fans need to be optimistic and hold out for a New Hope.

WEEKLY ROUND-UP! 10/22-10/28/12. CURIOUS WEEK.

WEEKLY ROUND-UP PRESENTS
CURIOUS WEEK!

7. WORD OF THE DAY! 10/25/12. Throne.

Speaking of thrones, George Lucas has, as of today, announced his retirement, Disney's purchase of Lucas Films for over $4 billion, and Star Wars VII's arrival in theaters in 2015. This is exciting, because Disney is a big company with ridiculous resources, protects its franchises, and has done wonders with Marvel (The Avengers is a Disney film). I'm also a little scared...

6. WORD OF THE DAY! 10/22/12. Domino.

Last week I missed out on giving you guys the articles you really deserve; for example, I think I could've given you more on the domino. The little black mask worn by most sensible vigilantes to protect their identities, it is applied to the face with spirit gum, or (if you're the Green Lantern, for instance) more creative methods.

5. WORD OF THE DAY! 10/28/12. Ramen.

"Instant ramen's really neat.
Ramen is my favorite treat.
I eat it every day and week
Ramen ramen! Eat eat eat!"

Lazy impromptu product jingles? Yes please, may I write another!

4. WORD OF THE DAY! 10/26/12. Quasar.

One of the games I can't wait to play this Holiday season is Mass Effect 3. I loved Mass Effect 1 & 2. Actually, hm.... maybe I need to finish playing through Mass Effect 2 again with all the DLC. Click click. I will do a trilogy review someday...mayhaps.

3. WTF WEDNESDAY! DUB OF THE NORTH STAR!

I really loved this comedy abridged dub of Fist of the North Star from the guys over at Weekly Tube Show. I showed it to several people and had them laughing out loud pretty quickly.

2. WORD OF THE DAY! 10/24/12. Monitor.

Speaking 343 Guilty Spark, I've preordered Halo 4, and just went through a heroic play-through of Halo 3 again. The game still holds up as a solid title...but screw the Flood levels.

MUSICAL MONDAY! CHILDREN'S DAY AT THE MORGUE!

MUSICAL MONDAY PRESENTS

Thurl Ravenscroft is one of the unsung heroes of cartoon voice history with accolades including: Monstro the Whale in Disney's Pinocchio, singer of "You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch", Kirby the Vaccuum Cleaner in The Brave Little Toaster, the singer of "No Dogs Allowed" in Snoopy, Come Home!, and was, of course, the voice of Tony the Tiger for over 50 years.

He also apparently released a Halloween holiday gimmick album under the guise of Dracula that is just dripping in good fun. Enjoy the campy fun of this lost Halloween-themed song.

WORD OF THE DAY! 10/29/12.

ice cream sandwich [ahys-kreem-sand-witch]
noun
1. A frozen confection composed of a layer of ice cream between two cookies(biscuits) or two pieces of cake.
