WEEKLY ROUND-UP! 9/3-9/9 2012! BRONY APPRECIATION WEEK

WEEKLY ROUND-UP PRESENTS

 7. WORD OF THE DAY! 9/8/12. Filial Rivalry.

I was a little worried about Word of the Day getting stale but, two days in a row mind you, I made up terms- neologisms that either reflect an element of fiction or internet culture- that help express ideas in an interesting way. I don't just want to celebrate wonderful words; I want to become part of the process of creating new words that help shape the way we define our worlds and our lives. If you have any ideas for new words, lemme know by commenting below.

6. TABLETOP TALES: THE HAUNTED WURMWOOD DECK: MIRROR MIRROR ON THE WALL EDITION!

I have been playing a ton of magic lately, literally indoctrinating and helping three friends learn how to play, and as I prepare (and can't wait for Return to Ravnica) I decided to burn off some of that excitement with, not one but, two deck articles this week. The Wurmwood Deck is one of my favorite decks and, mayhaps, it will be seeing some Golgari additions soon.

5. TABLETOP TALES: A DECK OF BLOOD & PORCELAIN: TEMPERED GLASS EDITION

Hey, I just notice a "glass" motif between the Mirror-Madness and Porcelain, ha! Anywho, one of my deck-building philosophies I live by is that you shouldn't just build the deck that'll win; you should build the deck you want to play. Build it and good times will come.

And, perhaps, my favorite of the two made-up words/terms I came up with last week was the affirmation for the "so ugly its cute" gimmick with the combining of "pug" and "magnificent" to create something I feel could be used to describe a lot of situations and hope to hear exclaimed at some point in my life.

3. WORD OF THE DAY! 9/5/12. Melee.

Not much to say about this one, but it reminded me how passionate gamers are about their games (including myself). As someone who wants to make board games and card games for a living, or at least the world-building and story stuff for them, I spend a lot of time thinking about such things...

2. WORD OF THE DAY! 9/4/12. Argentum & Brimstone.

I got to mix my love of Hanna Barbera with my love of fictional science?! Caloo calei! A win-win for all involved.

If the worst thing I ever did on Dumbledore Shot First is to do a lopsided and somewhat silly analysis of a children's cartoon show that I enjoy infrequently, than I'd say I'm doing pretty decently. If you want to see part two of the analysis, CLICK HERE.

WORD OF THE DAY! 9/9/12.

discord [dis-kawrd]
noun
1. Lack of concord or harmony between persons or things.
2. Disagreement; difference of opinion.
3. An inharmonious combination of musical tones sounded together.
4. Any confused or harsh noise; dissonance.

EX. Why would I continue to sow discord on my blog by talking about the ponies? So far, so good and so far, so boring-- I gotta finish this review because, unfortunately, my blog does obey a very specific rhythm that affords no discord. Plus, it would be a weak move not to finish up this two-parter for you guys.

And now, time to get back to the review...

WORD OF THE DAY! 9/6/12.

vice [vahys]
noun
1. An immoral or evil habitt or practice; fault, failing, foible, weakness
2. Immoral conduct; depraved or degrading behavior; depravity, sin, iniquity, wickedness, corruption.
3. Sexual immorality, especially prostitution; wantonness, degeneracy,or licentiousness.
4. A particular form of depravity.
5. A fault, defect, or shortcoming; flaw, blemish, imperfection, foible, weakness.

EX.Alright folks I know this is a vice that some of you're not terribly interested in allowing others to have; mostly because most of the "depraved" bronies out there try and shove this down your throat, but that not my goal here. All I want to do is what I always do on this blog; share things that I found entertaining, interesting, and/or worthy of discussion.

Today, we're talking about an episode of Lauren Faust's My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic that not only sums up everything that is interesting about the show but, also, the cornucopia of insane problems in the universe of Equestria; our subject is the two-parter that kicks of the second season, "The Return of Harmony" (guest-starring John de Lancie). Hit below for the first part of the review, the next part will be posted this wekeend.

MUSICAL MONDAY! VOLTAIRE!

Musical Monday Presents:
VOLTAIRE's WHEN YOU'RE EVIL
So, what is that I want in my music? I don't really listen to music for the same reasons that make popular music well, for lack of a better word, popular. I tend to love a narrative in my songs. The difference between a musician and a musical technician is a simple one:

The musical technician can play an instrument, whether that be their voice, guitar, or a triangle, but that's it. A musician is an artist, a poet, and, on top of that, can play an instrument. Today's subject, Voltaire, knows how to tell a good story. In fact, you've probably enjoyed at least on of his songs already.

Voltaire is an artist who has directed several shorts, commercials and short films for MTV, Syfy, Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. He has also written several books on goth culture. His station IDs are quite memorably for their morbid humor and dark style. Anyone remember this?

You can check out the rest of his videos on his youtube channel linked below.

But we're here to talk about a couple of awesome songs he has done. First, lets get the one you most certainly know out of the way. Do you remember the Brains Episode of Billy and Mandy? Voltaire is the evil brain eating monster with the swing music to sway his prey into his tentacled maw! You can watch the whole short below (its only about 8 minutes).

But what caught my attention was a funky little single called, When You're Evil. I am not gonna lie, I found it while looking around for interest PMVs (biggest thing since AMVs). The song is so much fun and filled with a incorrigible level of devilish glee. To check it out I'll link a non-pony and a pony version below.

DAILY ROUND-UP! 9/19/2011

Oh Monday daily round-ups are always the hardest.

Haters gonna hate, I suppose, but few things ignite the nerdcitement and flamewars like ponies, bronies and haters. This weekend saw the premiere of Season 2 of the internet favorite. MLP only comes on at 7 AM but the show's premiere really was very entertaining and was the most obvious attempt to appeal to adults in the series entire 27 episode run. They basically took a Star Trek villain, Q, and made him into a pony dragon with the same powers and much of the same personality as Q, played by John Delancie. Nuff said. This show just got 20% cooler.

LIVE ACTION ADVENTURETIME!
This special effects showcase and homage to one of my favorite shows on Cartoon Network is awesome, hilarious, and algebraic. Check it out and make sure to enjoy the sweetness.

BONUS-PARTY GOD CLIP

BONUS- FIONA AND CAKE

JAPANESE BIOSHOCK INFINITE TRAILER!

This is a neat new trailer shown at the Tokyo Game Show, complete with Japanese voice-acting and sweet bioshock infinite goodness.

 HE-MAN! HEYYEYAAEYAAAEYAEYAA!

Just He-Man being fabulous. Seriously, this is the most addictive song I've heard on youtube all year (and that is really saying something).

And lastly this weeks Awkward Zombie...
