WORD OF THE DAY! 11/5/13!

ESP [ee-es-pee]
acronym
1. "Extrasensory perception": perception or communication outside of normal sensory capability, as in telepathy and clairvoyance.

EX. There is one Pokémon in X & Y that has captured the mixture of cute and horrifying that makes for a perfect internet meme with the ESP themed Espurr that is every creepy psychic kid from a crappy sci-fi or horror flick mixed with a cat. And just look at his Pokédex entry:

From X "The organ that emits its intense psychic power is sheltered by its ears to keep power from leaking out."
From Y " It has enough psychic energy to blast everything within 300 feet of itself, but it has no control over its power."

Once again, this bit of horror is brought to you by the drunken psychopaths they hire to write the Pokédex entries.

WORD OF THE DAY! 10/21/13! POKÉBLOG X #1

Kalos starters [kal-ohs-stahrt-ers]
noun
1. The Pokémon that Professor Sycamore's proteges offers to the protagonist in the 6th Generation of Pokémon games; Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie. Also included, are the Kanto Starters, excluding Pikachu, that Sycamore offers later in the game.

EX. As many of my friends know, I changed my plans on which Kalos Starter I would pick for my first playthrough of Pokémon X. Originally, I planned to get Froakie & Bulbasaur, but, after the reveal of Chespin's final form, Chesnaught, I changed my mind.

I decided I liked Chespin the most and that it still met my plans of mixing it up by not picking the fire starter. Unfortunately, as cool as Greninja is, I decided that I wasn't as big a fan and figured I could figure out another Pokémon to fit my Water type needs (which, you'll see, is not technically the case, fufufu). I plan to eventually rename it Cptn. Carrot after one of my favorite characters from the Terry Pratchett books.

What does that mean for my other choices? Well, since I wasn't going to be picking Bulbasaur as my Kanto starter, I had to pick between Charmander & Squirtle and, as much as I figured I could just use the event Torchic, I really wanted Charizard X! I named my Charmander "Smaug" and I felt a lot of nostalgia for my first starter from way back in the day. I remember my nickname for my Charmander in Yellow was "Chili", oddly enough.

And, while we're here, I'll talk about other core members I captured for my team:

I'm not sure why, but I just really connected with the Ralts I caught and am excited to see it's Mega Gardevoir form. I need to rename it and I'm thinking Sir Lancelot.

Fletchling is pretty great, despite the 4X weakness to Rock, and I think he is my favorite generational bird after Staraptor. I'm going to rename the Talonflame "Hawky" after Sokka's pet hawk in the Avatar: The Last Airbender series.

Steel/Ghost type that is a "love it or hate it" Pokémon? There are two types of people: people that appreciate Honedge's cool design and strategy and people that hate it because it's a living sword... I don't know if I like the latter's opinion cuz I think he is pretty sweet. I will probably rename my Honedge "Conan" after the sword-wielding barbarian.

Last but not least, is the cutest member of my team Amaura, the new Ice/Rock dinosaur. This little cute creature has a neat typing and even neater abilities. I also noticed that your hand freezes if you touch it's ice crystals on its sides in Pokémon Amie-- which is awesome!

And that's the first little bit of info about my experience with the game. Expect more of my opinions and experience later this week.

WEEKLY ROUND-UP! 7/15-7/21/13!

WEEKLY ROUND-UP PRESENTS

7. WORD OF THE DAY! 7/20/13! Clicker.

Any of my readers play The Last of Us? Thoughts? Is it a must-have/must-play?

6. WORD OF THE DAY! 7/19/13! Walking on the Razor's Edge.

While League of Legends is probably my main multi-player addiction, I've also been getting into Civilization 5, Guns of Icarus, and Payday: The Heist.

5. WORD OF THE DAY! 7/18/13! Tumor.

On a completely unrelated note, I've just finished up Star Trek: Voyager. Next, I'm gonna watch The Original Series and finish up with Enterprise. My journey will be done and I'll have to find a new Netflix-ation.

4. WORD OF THE DAY! 7/16/13! Fairy Floss

This last week I decided to finally recall all of the Pokémon news I'd failed to hit up during my hiatus, staring with a look at the newest divider of feelings, Swirlex.

3. NERDCULTURE SMACKDOWN! POKÉMON OF THE WEEK! #493 ARCEUS

Sometimes to get back on the wagon you gotta take shortcuts-- in this case, I decided to take a short cut by only having one Pokémon featured.

2. TABLETOP TALES: MODERN MASTERS DRAFT #1 "GET KIKI-JIKI WITH IT!"

Modern Masters was simultaneously fun and challenging, perhaps more of the latter than the prior, but with the introduction of more and more MtG content, I keep getting pulled back into the game. In fact, I've got a Pre-Release article coming up and I just built my first Commander Deck. Look forward to more MtG content in the future.
1. NERDCULTURE SMACKDOWN! POKÉMON X & Y UPDATE! #1

And boy am I glad I live in a world where we entertain ourselves with Pokémon and Game of Thrones simultaneously. In this life, we can only enjoy so many things, and we certainly can't complain about not having enough options, can we?

What nerdy topic or hobby do you think I should cover more often or I should look into?

NERDCULTURE SMACKDOWN! POKÉMON X & Y UPDATE! #1

Before I do my usual analysis and first thoughts on the designs/abilities of the new Pokémon spoiled for the sixth generation of Pokémon games, let's look at some gameplay updates and new characters:

The identity of our new Pokémon Professor was revealed with the introduction of Prof. Sycamore of the Kalos region. He gives you and your friends Pokémon to start you on your journey and it is implied you will battle him at some point/s in the game. I think he looks like a pretty cool dude, but I might've liked to see somebody a little more interesting. Shrug.

The first of two new Gym Leaders announced is this device wearing fellow, Clement. I really like his design and I think he'll either specialize in Electric or Steel Pokémon.

Then we got, presumably, a Fighting or Rock gym leader named Grant who seemed to be into HM 08, if you know what I mean.

Next up, for our criminal/terrorist team, we're going to be battling the insidious Team Flare and their crazy hair. It seems that, as far as we know, these stylish villains are in it for the #swag, #yolo, etc.

Lastly, we received more info on the legendary Pokémon; Xerneas is Fairy type and Yveltal is Dary/Flying. We also discovered that Clauncher and Swirlex will be exclusive to Pokémon X and Skrelp and Spritzee are exclusive to Y version.

And now that I think I've got that sorta news out of the way, let's move onto the seven or so Pokémon revealed...I've got opinions.

Pangoro evolves from Pancham and is frickin' cool. He is a Dark/Fighting Pokémon that resembles a Japanese highschool street tough. I can't wait to see if he has a third stage-- let's hope it comes with a badass pompadour.

Honedge received a lot of buzz when he was spoiled and for good reason; he is another inanimate object (but based on myths of spirit-posses swords), he has a cool design, and an awesome typing-- Steel/Ghost. The main reason I think he has gotten so much attention in fanart is the ability to use him as a prop!

Inkay & Malamar are pretty awesome. They're Dark/Psychic type squid Pokémon and will I think they're some of the most interesting designs yet. Inkay is a cute little Pokémon with it's little beak and big eyes, but its evolution Malamar is just perfectly sinister.

I talked about Swirlex the other day, but Spritzee is another Fairy Pokémon, presumably with Flying type too, and is the Perfume Pokémon. I bet ya this cute pink parrot will have a fragrant evolution worthy of it's French setting.

Oorotto is a Pokémon that makes an appearance in the short/opening of the newest Pokémon film to hit Japan. As photography was forbidden at the screening, the appearance and details we have are based on second-hand description and sketches.

And that's all folks!
