FTW FRIDAY! SUPER MUGI AND BONK PLAY FINAL FANTASY VII!
Anime is ridiculous. Ridiculously sweet.
On last Sunday, my Dungeons and Dragons group voted on which one of our players was "best waifu" and my friend Jas won hands down. These are the sorts of conversations you have over rum and board games. These are the voyages of the star ship Dorkerprise.
Why have I never heard of Super Bonk?
Super Bonk is ridiculous. Ridiculously amazing!
In gaming news, after beating Shadow of Mordor and Link Between Worlds I am back to puttering around GTA V at my leisure and I smoke League every day. In new news, I got into the Heroes of the Storm beta and I must admit I am having fun. It's not gonna replace any of my other mobas, but it is pretty fun.
Final Fantasy VII is ridiculous. Ridiculously overrated.
Quick Jesus! Take the wheel before I'm overrun by angry fans!

MUSIC MON! CARBOHYDROM'S THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: A LINK TO THE PAST "UNSEALED"!
I just got A Link Between Worlds.
Link to the Past is, personally, my favorite Zelda. Part of the reason I love LttP, and the series as a whole, is the music. And, contrary to many people associating most Zelda musical cues with Ocarina of Time, many of the most beloved songs really got their established components from the 16 bit Link to the Past.
On a personal note, one particular song, the Fairy Fountain theme, is the song I would want played at my memorial service. That is how much the series soundtrack means to me.
And if you like Zelda or would like to get into more detail, you should check out my past Zelda articles (which I actually dedicated an entire week to back during the release of Skyward Sword) by hitting the link below.

WORD OF THE DAY! 10/21/14!
secateurs [sec-uh-toors]
noun
1. Sheers or scissors.
EX. Let's cut to the chase with a pair of secateurs.
Clock Tower is a game that doesn't really get the attention it deserves. In many ways, it set precedence for the horror genre of games. Despite being limited by the hardware of the time, the game manages to set up a lot of tension and atmosphere. It starts rather slow and the dialogue is very melodramatic but, when you're faced with the "Scissor-Man" you're going to be spooked, you're going to run, and your mind will race with desperation as you seek an escape. The game is all about replaying each scene and scenario to learn the best way and get the best endings through solving puzzles and timing everything.
Sound familiar?
Sounds like Resident Evil and Silent Hill.

WORD OF THE DAY! 9/30/13!
adjective
1. Having or characterized by impressive strength, power, or size.
2. Huge; large, etc.
3. Great in amount, extent, degree, etc.
adverb
4. Informal. Extremely, very, etc.
noun
5. The great, powerful, large, important, etc.
EX. I know I'm late to the party when it comes to sharing this info-- after all, the kickstarter for Mighty No. 9 ends in a day-- but I want everyone who hasn't got a chance to check out this incredible project to press the eyeballs to the screen and take in all of the mighty majesty that is this Mega Man spiritual successor.
Mega Man is one of the most beloved 2D platformer/metroidvaniaesque games of all time, making it's mark on the console market first during the NES days and building a strong legacy through the SNES years with several impressive sequels and spin-offs. Some time after the Mega Man X series, the franchise started going downhill and, after an attempted nostaglic revival of the franchise's iconic gameplay and style with Mega Man 9 and 10, Capcom has seemed to let the franchise fall by the wayside and into the no-man's land of being an existing franchise that it's owners don't seem very interested in when they could instead put out more lazy Streetfighter IV sequels and Resident Evil games. The man who was with Mega Man since the very beginning is one of his creators, Kenji Inafune, legendary game designer (pictured above). After 23 years, Inafune left Capcom in 2010 to pursue new opportunities. So, what does he do?
How about head a spiritual successor to Mega Man with kickstarter that has people almost more excited than if he and Capcom had announced an actual sequel to the series? Mighty No. 9 is an ambitious project but is clearly has the pedigree in it's production team to make an amazing game that combines the best of both worlds, between nostalgia and modern visuals, with an HD platformer with gorgeous graphics, mighty fine music, and gameplay that's as good, if not better, than ever! Plus, the hero's name is Beck. I can dig it.
They're only a few hundred thousand short of releasing the title on next gen consoles and handhelds so, if you wanna play it on those mediums, donate a little cash now! If you wanna find out more about the process, check out the first part in the documentary series on the franchise HERE.

WORD OF THE DAY! 5/17/13!
Nintendo shuffle [nin-ten-doh-shuf-uhl]
noun
1. The sounds made when Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and Nintendo 64 game cartridges rub their plastic against each other when in a pile or container.
EX. I have a big shoebox of SNES and N64 carts and they definitely make the Nintendo shuffle when I'm looking for a classic to play. As opposed to the soul-shattering sound of a cartridge or controller snapping into pieces.

MUSIC MON! REMEMBER MC CHRIS'S BEAUTIFUL GRUMP SONNET?
MUSICAL MONDAY PRESENTS
A quick PSA before we get started: the video linked above mentions the nostalgic activity of blowing the dust out of a video game cartridge. I used to do that too until I discovered that a) blowing doesn't really do anything (it's the taking it out and putting it back in the console), b) blowing destroys the cart over time from the moisture from your mouth, and c) it even says not to blow on the back! So please, stop destroying your retro games.
Anywho, this another animated music video from ADHD, in the vein of the prime Ukinojoe's 90's Nick. Yet, rather than the damning satire of ukinojoe (which I think was perhaps a little more interesting), the ADHD video is still a lot of fun and does come off with a decent moral.
You probably remember MC Chris for his many awesome Adult Swim cameos (EX. Hesh in Sealab 2021 & MC Pee Pants in Aqua Teen Hunger Force) and it seems a no brainer that he should get his own cartoons. I can already see the adventures that are possible, but hey "don't get me started on the robots."
And in case anyone has forgotten that I love me a good grump remix, here is a rather swell sonnet remixed from a recent Link to the Past episode (a series that got discontinued last year and is back for the win). It was one of the better episodes and this is one of the better remixes I've heard lately.

WORD OF THE DAY! 12/8/12.
fan theory [fan-theer-ee]
noun
1. A proposed explanation about a particular franchise, or any or all works and elements of fiction, whose validity is either completely implausible or unverified by the creature.
EX.
QUOTED FROM A FORUM POST BECAUSE IT WAS TOO MISSHAPEN FOR THE BLOG:
"Anonymous 07/27/09 (Mon) 02:17 No. 10536711
Aladdin: In one scene, Genie calls Al's clothes "so 3rd century." Genie has been the lamp for 10,000 years, so there's no way he could know of the fashion trends which hppened since he's been trapped. Which means the latest Genie could have been trapped in the lamp is the 3rd century. If he spent 10,000 years in there, it is now AT LEAST the year 10,300 AD when he gets out.
Conclusion: Aladdin takes place IN THE FUTURE. A post-apocalyptic world where only Arab culture (and some Greek) survived. It has been so long that the name "Arabia" has been corrupted to "Agrabah." The Muslim religion has atrophied to the point where there are no mosques, Imams, or prayers mats, but people still give praise to Allah in moments of happiness. Amazing technological marvels left behind by the previous civilization, like sentinel flying carpets or genetically engineered parrots which comprehend human speech instead of just mimic it, are taken for granted by the locals or considered "magic."
The Genie proves this by making impressions of ancient, long-dead celebrities like Groucho Marx, Jack Nicholson, etc."

WORD OF THE DAY! 9/27/12.
blowing into a cartridge [blo-wing-in-too-ey-kahr-trij]
verb
1. The popular process of fixing an inactive video game cartridge by attempting blow dust out of the cartridge's port. According to many resources, this doesn't actually do anything and, in fact, can damage a cartridge over time through exposure to the moisture of a breath. Do not blow into your cartridges or consoles!
EX. Unless exposed to retro gaming systems, like the Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis, kids these days will probably play lots of video games without ever having the experience of blowing into a cartridge. I actually blew into a cart to get it to work the other day (it was Donkey Kong Country 3), but discovered something yesterday that, while I hate to admit it, makes sense. Blowing into game carts doesn't fix anything and can actually ruin them!

WEEKLY ROUND-UP! 9/10-9/16/12.
WEEKLY ROUND-UP PRESENTS
7.WORD OF THE DAY. 9/14/12. Hobbledehoy.
Just curious (if anyone reads these), does anybody out there really like Slippy? I don't despise him and I can't imagine Starfox without him, but I'm just curious to know if he has any fans.
6. WTF WED! ZUBATS & CATS & RAPTORS, OH MY!
Last week's WTF Wednesday was a rather enjoyable hodgepodge of weirdery and I hope that you enjoyed it. Mmyes.
5. WORD OF THE DAY! 9/11/12. Handheld gaming.
I really need to get back to playing Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker some time...
4. WORD OF THE DAY! 9/12/12. Pulverize.
This last week I've been playing a lot of Banjo Kazooie. Any retro games you'd like to recommend?
3. MUSICAL MONDAY! JONTRON SCOOBSTEP MUSCLE MUSIC!
And I started the week with a trio of songs ranging from dubstep remix to insane human instruments.
2. WORD OF THE DAY. 9/15/12. Gremlin.
Few things are more entertaining than me sharing a terrifying experience from my childhood, right? Wait until I talk about the repeating nightmare where a mix of Child's Play and Star Fox ruins everything.
1. WORD OF THE DAY! 9/13/12. Cat-astrophe.
I don't have to apologize for anything...sometimes I just want to write something silly to get it out of my system.

WORD OF THE DAY! 9/12/12.
pulverize [puhl-vuh-rahyz]
verb
1. To reduce to dust or powder, as by pounding or grounding.
2. To demolish or crush entirely.
3. Slang. To defeat, hurt badly, or figuratively render helpless.
EX. I can happily say that, while I have had the fantasy of pulverizing a video controller, console, or cartridge, I have never actually gone so far as to render any of my products useless through an act of impotent revenge on a non-sentient (some would argue with this) device.

WEEKLY ROUND-UP! 8/13-8/19/12.
WEEKLY ROUND-UP PRESENTS
SHARK WEEK!
7. WORD OF THE DAY! 8/17/12. Carcharodon.
No animal deserves to have an entire week set aside for them a year; especially on channels that have nothing but pointless reruns of reality TV the rest of the year (reality TV =/= documentary).
6. WORD OF THE DAY. 8/18/12. Man.
I really enjoyed sharing this quote and video but...I miss when I used to write fantastically detailed articles about video games and mythology...maybe I should go back to doing at least one of those a week. Anybody out there been reading long enough to remember when I used to do that and would like to see more of that?
5. WORD OF THE DAY! 8/14/12. CRT.
I've been playing a lot of retro games lately and so you can expect to see more retro game reviews to be hitting the blog in the near future. Are there any retro games, especially on the SNES, that you would recommend?
4. WORD OF THE DAY! 8/13/12. Back to the Future.
Back to the Future is probably one of the greatest movie trilogies of all time and you wanna know something weird; I want to see a sequel/remake/continuation. There are so many times to play with, Doc Brown is the only character that really needs to come into play for sure, and between the changes in special effects and historical cinema we should get some cool stuff.
3. WTF WEDNESDAY. QWOP & CLOP
Sometimes a weird flash game is needed to satisfy that itch for something truly creative. Remember, many of the greatest video game franchises of all time started out with some dude working on his own in his garage...
2. WORD OF THE DAY! 8/16/12. Marketing. The Very First Pokemon Commercial.
Pokemon is probably my favorite franchise of all time.
I know what you're thinking, "Goof Troop? Isn't that 90's Disney stuff for babies!?" Actually, its my pick for the best co-op game on the SNES and arguably the closest thing to a multiplayer Zelda game before Four Swords.

WORD OF THE DAY! 8/9/12.
game genie [geym-jee-nee]
noun
EX. I never had a Game Genie, but I kinda wish I had one to help me beat Keelhaul Pete in Goof Troop on the SNES.
P.S. If for some bizarre reason you haven't checked out Zac Gorman's website, CLICK HERE, and feel a wave of glorious comedy and nostalgia wash over you like the breath of a thousand people blowing in their Goof Troop cartridge so they can plug it, dust-free, into their SNES.
noun
1. Video game. S series of cheat systems designed by
Codemasters and sold by Camerica and Galoob for the Nintendo Entertainment
System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Game Boy, Mega Drive/Genesis, and
Sega Game Gear that modifies game data, allowing the player to cheat,
manipulate various aspects of games, and sometimes view unused content and
functions.
