WORD OF THE DAY! 1/24/14!

wicker man [wik-er-man]
noun
1. According to Julius Caesar's Commentarii de Bello Gallico, a large wicker statue in the shape of a human used by the ancient Celtic druids for human sacrifice by burning it and the victim in effigy. There is no archeological evidence that this ever took place but is, instead, most likely the result of misinformation out of Greco-Roman disdain for cultures they saw as barbaric. However, many agents of neopaganism have taken the ritual of burning a wooden effigy as part of many of their festivals, though, obviously, without the element of human sacrifice.

EX. Nostalgia Critic has finally gotten around to reviewing the Wicker Man remake starring Nicholas Cage. There will be bees.

WTF WED! PIZZA BOOMERANGS DELIVERED BY INVADER ZIM ON A BACKWARDS CAT! (WARNING! NSFW EDITION!)

For those of you not in the know, "NSFW" is an abbreviation of "Not Safe For Work". It usually refers to content depicting nudity, violence, or anything your boss or someone else with sensitive tastes might find offensive or get the wrong idea.

Pizza Boomerang has some nudity & violence. It is worth it.

It is worth it because it is that one video, the sort of video I run into about once a week when my haul of the net's bounty is thick with content, that changes my life. Every piece of entertainment and information, really input any kind, that we consume changes us in some subtle way. Pizza Boomerang is the sort of video that has a deeply profound effect.

The bizarre imagery and humor are going to be in my mind for a long time. Enjoy. I know I did.

If Pizza Bommerang was a little too much for you to handle, then I'd recommend skipping to Backwards Cat.

Hotdiggedydemon, creator of the PONY .MOV series, has made a lot of disturbing content in the same vein as Ren & Stimpy, without the censorship that legendary program seemed to all but survive unscathed, and Invader Zim Lost Episode is probably his most disturbing creation. Filled with all of the contempt and visual humor of his other works, it may not be for everyone, it may not even be for me, but it is definitely something to behold.

My eyes feel violated. But that's okay. I like it.

Let's end on a pallet cleanser with a bit of good old cartoony, in that Looney Tunes, Tex Avery, Chuck Jones sort of style mixing comedic violence, physical humor, and body humor in the surprisingly endearing first adventure of Backwards Cat.

Despite it's fart jokes, by my standards, it's good clean fun. And I really love it.

And that's butt-end of this post.

WORD OF THE DAY! 1/21/14!

anthology [an-thol-uh-jee]
noun
1. A book or other collection of selected writings by various authors, usually in the same literary form, of the same period, or on the same subject.

EX. So, I think it's been about a hot minute since we had any ponies on my blog, but the third installment of the Ponies Anthology is a perfect excuse. In the same vein of AMV Hell, the Ponies Antholgies are a collected montage of scenes taken from dozens of independently created works, collaborations, and other fan videos related to Hasbro's My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. They are edited together into something both easily digestible and attention holding, adding in special projects created especially for the anthology, to celebrate another year of the fandom's work.

Even if you're not a fan of MLP, you can probably appreciate a lot or at least some of the humor and definitely appreciate the effort. Similar fan efforts have produced other projects like MLPFiM: Double Rainboom and Rainbow Dash Presents.

Enjoy or not. Shrug. I indulged in one of my interests for an article and will now return to my usual programming.

If you want to learn more about this recently emerged, slightly marginalized, and ever-growing fandom, check out the recent Bronies documentary narrated by John De Lancie.

MUSIC MON! PSY'S OLD SPICY KOREAN CABBAGE PRAYER TO GANGNAM GRUMPS!

Oh boy! Time for a late late late MLK Day Musical Monday!

The first song in our trio of tra-la-la is the newest viral advertising campaign from the deodorant company, Old Spice, that brought us THIS and THIS and so much more entertainment in the name of trying to sell us on a deodorant that, unlike some of its other competitors, won't leave you smelling like a teenage boy's jockstrap. Instead, it seems, Old Spice uses a combination of insanely bizarre comedy and the pitch that using the spray will turn you into a "man", not basically attract girls like honey to flies, but instead give of an air of masculine maturity.

None of these commercials have managed to bring this note home quite like this lilting little piece of lunacy in the form of having a dozen mothers lament the loss of their little baby boys to the lovely young ladies attracted to their more mature scent.

You know what goes good with Old Spice?

Guile's Theme.

I don't know if you guys knew this but, on the internet, it is a well-known rule; Guile's Theme from Street Fighter goes with everything. You can combine the catchy little tune with just about anything to create something that will pump just about anything up to eleven. Seriously, you should try it before you knock it. It even goes with ponies.

And as for Game Grumps...

...they can take any musical experience from a passable bit of entertainment and elevate into something that most people would be too ashamed to record, much less share with over a million subscribers, and probably give their art to the government a la Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

It is beauty, it is grace, it is Grump.
