MIXED BAG. TABLE TOP TALES: HAKUNA MATATA DECK

TABLE TOP TALES PRESENTS:

HAKUNA MATATA DECK

To check out my other decks, hit the links below.

This article serves two purposes: To share the nerd entertainment around with anyone who might find it sorta interest and to keep myself in check. To do the latter, I'll be keeping track of how much I've invested into building my decks.

So, here we go into discussing my first three color deck, which includes cards from the following purchases:

Deck Builder's Toolkit. Cost: $17

Intro Pack: 2012 Core Set, Sacred Assault. Cost: $13

6 Booster Packs Cost: $24

Intro Pack: Mirroden Besieged, Battle Cries. Cost: $13

Duel Deck: Ajani Vs. Nicol Bolas. Cost: $20

1 Booster Battle Pack: Cost: $10
Total Expense: $97

Note: Some of these purchases were gifts for Christmas or my Birthday.

So, from these purchases I've built the...

HAKUNA MATATA DECK

This deck started out the Ajani Vengeant deck from the aforementioned Duel Deck pack. To check out the original deck list, click HERE.

 Contains 60 Cards.
CREATURES
(23 Cards: 8 Green, 1 Red, 7 White, 2 Green/Whites, 3 Red/Whites, 2 Red/White/Green )
E.T. KICK BUTT
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? This is easily the creme de la creme of my deck. This deck's potential is all about life gain and cards like this, heck this card, turns my life gain into a devastating offensive move. If I gain 1 life, he gets 1 +1/+1 counter AND if I gain 7 life, he gets 7 +1/+1 counters! Then attach a Loxodon Hammer or Behemoth Sledge to this wise alien and ET here becomes Godzilla.

MACHETE CATS > THUNDER CATS
Deck contains. 2.
Reasons? Talk about the staple of my deck. I really can't believe how decent the mana cost is and it's life gain ability make it more than worth its cost. This is great card to play in the second or third round. Swing away and do what it takes to add as many counters as you can.
I AM THE LION KING!

Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? This is my first Planeswalker and his third ability is GAME WINNING in 4 Rounds. Seriously. He is pretty cheap with a decent +1 ability. The trick is to keep him on the field for rounds, destroy your enemies mana, and just ruin all their fun. To be honest, there are a few cards out there that could take its place, like Ajani Goldmane (like I can get one of those), but, for now, I'll keep him in the mix.

LEAD THE CHARGE!
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? The ability to add +3/+3 for a turn isn't that bad. But add in the fact that it can be played as an instant and can basically work as a Giant Growth for your whole side of the battlefield for an Evoke cost makes this a devastating card. This card is great for when you need to make a big push for little mana.

LIFE LADY NO. 1
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? I have a white version of this little lady. Its simple really. Put it on the field and keep it on the field so you can get life or, if worse comes to worse, defend an attack with it.
GAIN LIFE. CRASH. STILL GAIN LIFE.
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? I swear, I've got to have an Angel in all my decks but this white/red beauty would be two expensive if it weren't for its late game shenanigans. This is a mean angel that helps you out even in death. As soon as you play this card, prepare for permanent life gain that can't be stopped by anything less than exile.

LAND = LIFE

Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? I've always enjoyed a good landfall card and this cards landfall ability is pretty sweet. Combo this with Sylvan Rangers for more life, of course. This ones a little bit more of a placeholder for the moment but for now it does its job of getting me more life and working as a bit more of a useful blocker.

HERCULOIDS HAD A ROCK GORILLA, RIGHT?
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? A simple brute really that crushes opposition for this this three color deck.

"IF I WAS THE KING OF THE FOREST!" -COWARDLY LION, THE WIZARD OF OZ
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? A less than cowardly lion that stalks this this three color deck.

MEMORY IS HIS SPECIALTY
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? Life gain? Check. 4/4 for 4 mana? Check? A secondary ability that allows me to regenerate all my creatures? Check. This card is a great addition to the deck and keeps up with all the other themes above.

NEVER FORGETS. NEVER FORGIVES.
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? A placeholder to be sure. Sporecap Spider is a superior card, since it has reach, but I still like having this card in my deck for the flavor of it. Hopefully, I can get some more useful Loxodon additions in the future. Maybe I'll swap it out with Fleetfoot Panther.

TWO CATS ARE BETTER THAN ONE.
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? Double strike definitely comes in handy when I need to clear the field or take a swing. It doesn't have any life gain to it, but its always useful to have some bruisers.

"BE PREPARED!" -SCAR, THE LION KING
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? A devious pack of cruelty to unleash on your foes; this is a great creature card to get out on the field mid game. With a handy dandy secondary ability that allows you to incapacitate an enemy's big blockers or force a useful card to block to get rid of them.

THE FEMALES ARE THE TRUE HUNTERS.
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? Sometimes you need things done and done brutally. This creature is great because, if your opponent blocks it with a critter you can't destroy, simply put Pride of Lions damage straight onto his life. Effective and vicious, this card is more than your opponent expects it to be.

REWARD THE COURAGE OF LIONS!
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? This card is fantastic, especially in early game, for a number of reasons. 2/2 for 2 mana is nothing to sniff at, but when you add Exalted, which makes your single attackers beefed up +1/+1, and then add on a secondary ability that helps you get rid of annoying artifacts or enchantments, you end up with a triple threat.

FLY HIGHER!
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? This card has great synergy with a life deck. Get to 30 life and it becomes a 6/6 with flying and lifelink for 1 Plains mana. Then, swing away to keep gaining more life and keeping it as a flying attacker. Brilliant.

LIFE LADY NO. 2
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? I have a green version of this little lady. Its simple really. Put it on the field and keep it on the field so you can get life or, if worse comes to worse, defend an attack with it.

PONYTA AND RAPIDASH'S MISSING EVOLUTION
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? Now this doesn't really fit into the theme of my deck and is a placeholder, BUT its an awesome card. Block a 10/5 with this and kill it. Boom. Heck, block a 7/10 with this and kill it. Heck, block a 10/5 with this beast, and put the ten right onto the opponent's life. This is a devastating attacker and a devastating blocker. This is a mean card.

MORE MANA PLEASE!
Deck contains. 2.
Reasons? In a deck where having three different colors of mana on the field is necessary, having two of these elves in your deck will save you a lot of trouble.

MANA WOMANIMAL FOR THE WIN!
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? Now, this card makes Loam Lion and Kird Ape look kind of lame in comparison in this three color deck. This feline is a fantastic card to draw any time.

COOLEST WOOLLEST NAME EVER!
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? I wish I had three of these because this creature is just cool in so many ways. It is a three color card, it has a 3 mana cost for a simple 5/4, and it has great art. Throwing this beast out makes your opponents leery and distracts them from the real threats (*cough* Ageless Entity *cough*).

Enchantments, Instants and a Sorcery
(17 Cards: 1 Colorless Artifact Enchantment, 2 Colorless Artifact Equipments, 6 White Enchantments, 2 White Instants & 1 White Sorcery, 1 Green/White Artifact Equipment, 1 Red/White Instant, 1 Red/White Enchantment, 1 Red/White/Green Instant, 1 Red/White/Green Sorcery)

"REMEMBER..." -MUFASA, THE LION KING
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? Sure this card is simple. But it also annoys the crap out of your enemies and boosts half the creature cards in my deck. The more life gain I can get from more sources, the better.

HEALS HERE!
Deck contains. 2.
Reasons? Angel's Mercy was an obvious replacement for Sylvan Bounty. Why pay 2 more mana for one more life? Playing this card will get you to that golden ideal of 30+ life in no time.

BIG HAMMER SWINGS BOTH WAYS! AND ALL THE BETTER!
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? This artifact is probably my favorite card in this deck. I love hammers and this nasty hammer turns your monsters into life-linking weapon of mass destruction! Attaching this baby to one of my big monsters quickly turns the tide in my favor.

ARMOR + LIFE = AWESOME!
Deck contains. 2.
Reasons? This is a fantastic card in this deck. It not only helps me get to 30+ life faster, it beefs up my monsters so I can delay for when I am ready to swing away with something like one of my hammers or big beasties.

I CALL IT THE GOLDEN GOBLET!
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? Let me just set this timer over here. Five turns later, sacrifice, drink up the sweet life and place in graveyard. This card is so simple and so sweet.

I WANT ABOUT TEN OF THESE!
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? I really wish I had more of this card. Not just for this deck, but any white/red deck. That two mana instant for those three options listed is incredibly useful. This card can destroy a creature, a player or boost your health. Its a triple threat.

SMASHY SMASHY!
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? Did I mention I love hammers? This is a more aggressive and easier to play version of Behemoth Sledge and really its a better card. This turns just about any monster in my deck into a titanic beasty. Put it on a monster that gains counters for every life gain and you've just about clinched the game. Expect to see more hammers in my decks in the future.

Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? Another great triple threat that really outweighs the usefulness of Lightning Helix. Its ability to get my back a card or simply make my opponents monsters tap so I can swing away is indispensable.

SHHH...QUIET.
Deck contains. 2.
Reasons? Pacify + Ajani's Mantra is a combo too good for this deck.

HOLY FIRE MOTHER F***ER!
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? This card turns life gain into a constant barrage of lightning and holy fire. Its a great card to play early and, while a great card, your opponent will probably cancel it and you have better cards for them to cancel in late game.

"A RELIC DONATION IS SUGGESTED. THE SUGGESTION IS MANDATORY."
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? This is a card that just fits into this deck nice and easy. Sure, I'd like to see another one of these in the deck. Its no Naturalize, but the life gain synergy fits the theme nicely.

WE HAVE FOUND THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH!

Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? I am gonna play lands. Might as well get some 8 life out of it for one mana and three turns.

CANDY IS DANDY, BUT LIFE IS BETTER.
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? A simple equipment to play early and play often. Put it on your potential blockers, block, and gain life. Rinse and repeat for more life.

STAMPEDE!
Deck contains. 1.
Reasons? By the time you get Titanic Ultimatum, you are ready to finish off your enemies. Throw this down, swing hard, and if you don't end them with the first swing...they won't have much farther to fall.
